GRAMMAR REVIEW: Topic: Incorrect Prepositions (5-6 minutes) ( 間違った前置詞の使い方 ) In English grammar, prepositions are used as connectors to show relationships of direction, location, time, etc. They have several different functions which can often be tricky. In most cases, they can be used interchangeably which results to serious grammatical errors. ( 英語の前置詞は 方角や場所 時間などの関係を示す接続語として使われます 前置 詞は間違いやすく いくつかの異なる働きがあります ほとんどの前置詞には互換性が ありますが 重大な文法ミスにつながることがありますので注意しましょう ) Remember: To avoid mistakes, one has to become familiar with some of the most common incorrect uses of prepositions. ( 注意 : 間違いを避けるため よくある間違った前置詞の使い方を覚えておきましょう ) Examples: 1. Do not use additional prepositions when the meaning is clear without them.( 前置詞がなくても意味が明確な場合 余計な前置詞は使わないようにしましょう ) Incorrect: I will try it later on. Correct: I will try it later.( 正 : あとでやってみます ) 2. When expressing differences, use the word from instead of than if the next word is a noun or pronoun.( 差を表現する場合 前置詞の直後の語が名詞または代名詞なら than ではなく from を使いましょう ) Incorrect: My car is different than Maggie s. Correct: My car is different from Maggie s. ( 正 : 私の車はマギーのものとは異なります ) Page 3

Use the word between when two things are involved and use among for three or more things.(2 つの事物が関与する場合は between を 3 つ以上の事物が関与する場合は among を使いましょう ) Incorrect: It will be posted among the two paintings. Avoid these common errors on idiomatic prepositions.( 次のような慣用表現で使われる前置詞を間違えないように注意しましょう ) Incorrect: Correct:( 正 ) apologize about apologize for(~について謝罪する ) taken cared of taken care of (~の面倒を見る) capable to capable of(~することができる ) interested about interested in(~に関心がある ) comply to comply with(~に従う ) Comprehension Check: Create a sentence that shows the difference between a mobile phone and a landline.
