16 explanation 44 1 When you are about to go home from work, you say this to the people that are still working. 2 In addition to the western system for counting years, another system is also used in Japan. In 1989 a new Japanese Emperor was installed and that became the start of the Heisei period. Thus 2006 is the eighteenth year of Heisei. 3 An abbreviation for digital camera. 4 The way to read a dash (-) in a telephone number is no. So you say 03 no 3205 no. 5 In Japanese the -form + is a way to express that something has ended. ~ is the casual form of this expression. 6 Okonomiyaki is a dish that is baked on an iron plate and looks a bit like a pizza. Osaka and Hiroshima are famous places for okonomiyaki. 7 The usage of here has the meaning of not good. You can use it when you don t want to be too direct.
