1 L3 Living in peace and Harmony with Nature Part 1 How have people changed the environment/ in Borneo?// As you look down on the island/ from the plane,/ you may think that/ a great natural forest covers the island.// When you come down closer,/ however,/ you see that/ there is something strange/ about it:// it is made up of only/ one type of plant.// What is happening there?// The name of the island is Borneo.// It is located/ in Southeast Asia.// It is the third largest island/ in the world,/ and/ belongs to Malaysia, Indonesia and Brunei.// Its rain forests have been home o/ to thousands of unique species.// But/ in large area of the island that is quickly becoming/ a thing of the past.// Since the 1970s,/ people have been cutting down/ the trees/ to get money/and/ make land/ for growing food.// They have made farms and plantations/ for palm oil.// The development is leading to the loss of/ many species found only on Borneo.//
