2 1 10:00 12:00 12:30 13:05 15:20 17:30 17: Ishikawa 10:00 The Objectives of JAPAN TENT 11:00 22 This year we will be hosting the 24th JAPAN TENTWorldwide Student Exchange Program Ishikawa Young people are the ones who truly shoulder our future, and we have invited students from various countries and regions all over the world to join us for this year s JAPAN TENT. Together, they will help plan for international exchange, and share ideas on issues such as the hopes and dreams of today s youth, and Japanese society, culture, lifestyle, etc. The 1st JAPAN TENT was held in 19, and since its inception, JAPAN TENT has hosted over 7,00 students from 156 countries, many of whom are now active all over the world, working to foster the creation of international ties between Japan and the rest of the world. With the aim of the JAPAN TENT being Internationalization starting in local areas, the success of the JAPAN TENT has become a precious asset of Ishikawa Prefecture. The general theme of this year s JAPAN TENT is Love for Our Hometown. We hope that participants will be able to experience Ishikawa s rich historical and traditional cultures through various learning and exchange programs. By understanding the differences between Japan and their home countries cultures and living styles, students will learn the importance of mutual awareness and to respect the diversity of life :00 17: :00 During this 7day program, the students will have the opportunity to stay with 2 host families. This will enable them to become familiar with the warm affection of Ishikawa s people, and provide an opportunity to truly understand the Japanese way of life, which is rare in today s student lives. Furthermore, the students and volunteer citizens who help the exchange students settle in, will come to understand the importance of knowing about their own hometown, and appreciate the value of hearttoheart exchange across national boundaries. 11:00 11:30 We are confident that JAPAN TENT has encouraged young people to cherish their future dreams and helped support the Prefecture s foreign exchange student programs. 4 JAPAN TENT in JAPAN TENT in 1 Thu 21Sun 1 Thu 21Sun 1 17: :30 Komatsu Komatsu city is the large city in south Kaga. It is located in the center of the Kaga Plain. It is blessed with abundant natural settings such as the sacred Hakusan, Kibagata (lagoon) and the Japan Sea Coast. Komatsu is one of the main places of production for KUTANI POTTERY which is representative of Japanese artistic handicrafts which have continued since the Edo period. Komatsu Airport, the gateway to the Hokuriku district, has increased the number of scheduled and charter fl ights. About two million people use the airport each year. Komatsu aims to broaden its international relations. The city airport movement is increasing as each year. There are more citizens going abroad. The urban district of Komatsu was a castle town which developed around the Komatsu Castle. Traditional urban culture is typefi ed by HIKIYAMA KODOMO-KABUKI. The DANKA-supporter of a Buddhist temple are also representative of traditional mass culture. Both of their arts continue to be appreciated to this day. 1 17:30 17: :30 20:40 10:00 Wajima Ishikawa Prefecture boasts of many famous crafts and places which are representative of Japan, such as the beautiful & strongly durable Wajimanuri Japanese Lacquerware and the Asaichi morning market that is full of blessings from the sea. Wajima is also famous for the Daihonzan Sojiji Temple - the original head temple of the Soto Zen Buddhism in the Monzen district which continues to pass on its traditional grace and style to present days. One can feel the warmth & hospitality of the city from the friendly smiles of the people in the morning market. The residents have learned to face and live through natural hardships, just like the Senmaida thousands of rice-paddies, which are terraced rice-fi elds cultivated on mountain slopes extending all the way to the seashore. In July 2003, the long-awaited Noto Airport was opened and it would take only 60 minutes to travel to Tokyo. As the city has never been damaged by war, the streets remain in their full splendor in this castle town, which was the wealthiest doman in all Japan during feudal times. Kanazawa shows a beautiful spectrum of colors throughout the seasons with spring dyed by the pale pink of cherry blossoms, the black roof tiles shining in the summer sun, autumn decorated with a brilliant array of changing leaves, and winter enveloped in a snow-white blanket. The citizens of Kanazawa enjoy leading fulfilling lives in this city of culture which has nurtured traditional arts and traditional industrial arts.
