VOCABULARY Exercise 1: What s the meaning? (5-6 minutes) Choose the meaning of the underlined words from the choices that follow. Then practice using the words in your own sentences. 1. The objective ( 目的 ) of the report is to introduce the company to the prospective clients. a. conclusion b. subject c. goal d. source 2. (5-7 minutes) Read the following dialog with your tutor and try to use context clues to fill in the blanks with the most appropriate word. You can find the missing word from the pool of words at the bottom. Ms. Klein is being asked by her manager to write a report regarding the new company policy. Manager: I need you to do a report regarding the outcome of the new company policy. Ms. Klein: What are the (1) for the report? Manager: The reactions from employees from all the departments of the company should be considered when you make the report. I need (2) that would show the effectiveness or ineffectiveness of the policy. Use a table when presenting the data so that it would be easier to understand. Ms. Klein: Is that all, Sir? GRAMMAR REVIEW: Topic: Superlatives (5-6 minutes) ( 最上級 ) Superlatives are a form of an adverb or adjective that describes the greatest degree of quality. ( 最上級とは 副詞または形容詞の度合いが最大である形式をいいます ) For adjectives and adverbs with one or two syllables, the superlative is formed by adding est to the word. (e.g. clear--clearest) ( 形容詞 副詞が 1 つ 2 つの音節からなるものであれば 最上級はその単語に-est を加えた形となります 例 clear 澄んだ--clearest 最も澄んだ ) For adjectives and adverbs with more than two syllables, and for adverbs ending in -ly the superlative is formed by adding the word most or least depending on the degree. (e.g. most expensive, least dependable, most nicely) ( 形容詞 副詞が 2 つより多い音節からなる場合 また -ly で終わる副詞の場合の 最上級は 程度により most や least を加えた形となります 例 most expensive 最も高い, least dependable 最も頼れない, most nicely 最も親切に ) Remember: When forming the superlative of adjectives and adverbs with one or two syllables that end in y, change y to i before adding est. (clear clearest) ( 彼女の報告書は 説明が最も明確だ ) It was the easiest to understand among all the reports. (easy easiest) ( 全ての報告書の中で それは最も分かりやすかった ) Adverbs and Adjectives with more than two syllables (2 つより多い音節からなる副詞 形容詞 ) She is the most objective employee of the department. (objective most objective) ( 彼女は 部内で最も客観性のある従業員だ ) Teaching is one of the most fulfilling jobs in the world. ( 教えることは 世界で最もやりがいのある仕事の一つだ ) Adverbs ending in ly (-ly で終わる副詞 ) Marc had the most seriously presented report.
