20 スペイン地中海文化の女性表象としてのアルモドバル映画 The Films of Pedro Almodóvar as Female Representations in Spanish-Mediterranean Culture: Structural and Semiotic Analysis of the Dialogues in All About My Mother and Volver YADA Yoko In this article, we will focus on the films of Pedro Almodóvar, All About My Mother and Volver, both of which contain rich representations of the social issues facing Spanish society, especially related to gender issues such as how Spanish women have created their identities in contemporary Spanish society. However, it is quite difficult to understand the meaning of these representations, not only due to their uniqueness but also as to do so requires having a deep perspective related to Spanish culture and its religion, which can be markedly distinguished from other parts of Europe, especially northern Europe. Therefore, this article aims to analyze how the gender representations in the films of Almodóvar embody the social and cultural elements of Spain. In order to perform a deeper analysis, the ancient mythology of Goddesses of the Mediterranean area and the Mariology of the Roman Catholics will also be explored, as these elements have certainly had an effect on the way of thinking of Spanish people and has shaped their gender identities. Through this analysis, we will discover that the gender representations in the films of Almodóvar can be considered as characteristics of modern Spanish society. 125
