Hello! My name is Stefan. I m Roger s successor as Matsushima s Coordinator for International Relations (CIR).

In English my name means, Acrown made of palm leaves, meaning freedom. I was born in North Carolina in a city next to Chapel Hill called Charlotte.

How do you imagine Charlotte and North Carolina North Carolina is sort of in the middle of the East Coast of the United States.

My full name is Frank Esteban Ramos, but since this is actually a Spanish name it s a little difficult for Americans to pronounce. So, I go by the American version, Stefan. Please, call me Stefan. In English my name means, Acrown made of palm leaves, meaning freedom. I was born in North Carolina in a city next to Chapel Hill called Charlotte. After that, I moved to Germany, then Oklahoma, and then back to Charlotte.How do you imagine Charlotte and North Carolina North Carolina is sort of in the middle of the East Coast of the United States. Originally it was the same state as South Carolina, but before the time of the Thirteen Colonies it separated into North and South. In the Civil War, North Carolina allied itself with the South, so even now if one looks at a cultural map of the United States he will see that North Carolina actually belongs to the subculture group Americans call the South. Many Americans imagine a stereotypical Southerner to be conservative but very hospitable. I think it s really different in large cities though. Charlotte (suburbs included) has a population of 2.47 million and is the second largest banking center in the United States. A long time ago North Carolina was an agricultural state, so even now there is a connection with tobacco and cotton. Even so, the main export for the state is airplane parts. As to why: Kitty Hawk, North Carolina (a barrier island) is where at the beginning of the 20th century the Wright Brothers invented the world s first successful airplane. The North Carolina barrier islands are also famous for wild Corolla Mustangs. I studied Japanese at the University of North Carolina. My first Japanese teacher was from Tohoku, so I m glad to be able to see the Japan that she described. Tohoku, Miyagi, and Matsushima have a long history so I m grateful to have come here. I ve only been here for five months, so there is still so much that is new to me.
