12 An Investigation of the Alterations of Tonsil and Plasma Individual Free Essential Amino Acid Levels in Tonsillogenic Focal Diseases Yutaka NODA, Ken-ichi KURITA, Masahiro KOJA, Yoshitaka ARAKAKI, Shigemitsu MATAYOSHI, and Tomohiro GENKA Department of Otorhinolaryngology, College of Health Sciences, University of the Ryukyus Takashi AKAMATSU Department of Adult Health, College of Health Sciences, University of the Ryukyus Osamu OHSHIRO Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Okinawa Prefectural Nago Hospital In order to evaluate the mechanism of tonsillogenic focal diseases, the seven different individual free essential amino acid levels (Isoleucine, Leucine, Lysine, Methionine, Phenylalanine, Threonine, and Valine) were analysed for the tonsils and for the pre- and post-operative plasma in tonsillogenic focal diseases and general inflammatory tonsilar diseases by the column chromatographic method with automatic amino acid analyser (JLC-6AH), and the following results were obtained. 1) The levels of seven individual free essential amino acids were altered unitarily with a same tendency in the tonsils and the pre-operative plasma for individual tonsillogenic focal diseases, and, depleted in the tonsils and the pre-operative plasma for accelerated blood sedimentation rate, Echronic nephritis and slight fever, and elevated in the tonsils and depleted in the pre-operative plasma for rheumatoid arthritis, also elevated in the pre-operative plasma and unchanged in the tonsils for Pustulosis palmaris et plantaris. 2) In relation with the provocation test for tonsils, all the levels of individual free essential amino acids were depleted in the tonsils and the pre-operative plasma on the positive group, and tend to elevate in the pre-operative plasma and unchanged in the tonsils on the false positive group. 3) In relation with the tonsillectomy effects for tonsillogenic focal diseases, many of the plasma individual free essential amino acid levels were elevated on the tonsillectomy effective group, uncertained on the moderate effective group and depleted on the uneffective group, thus correlating was recognized. Meanwhile, in comparison with the levels in the tonsils standardized with general inflammatory tonsilar diseases, many of the tonsil individual free essential amino acid levels were less altered on the tonsillectomy effective group, and prominently altered on the moderate effective and uneffective groups. 4) For seven individual free essential amino acids in the tonsils and the pre-operative plasma, no co-
