Santa ICHIKAWA) Abstract \ The fiber type composition and capillary supply in rat diaphragm were compared with those different hindlimb muscles. And n, effects sex difference and growth on se characteristics diaphragm were studied. Muscle samples obtained from anestized rat were rapidly frozen and sliced transversely in a cryostat. The sections were stained histochemically by succinate dehydrogenase method and myosin adenosine triphosphatase method after preincubation at ph 4.3 to typify fibers. The capillaries were stained by myosin adenosine triphosphatase method after preincubation at ph 4.0. The following results were obtained. The greater part rat diaphragm was composed fast twitch fibers, as well as fast muscle. The capillary supply in diaphragm was richer than that hindlimb muscles studied. For fiber type composition, re were no differences between male and female rats. The muscle capillarity in female rats were more richer than that male rat. The growth causes changing properties motoneurons and new capillary formation in diaphragm. Since diphragm was already adapted to a highly repetitive and low resistance type activity, it assumed that histochemical and morphological characteristics muscle fibers were related to functional requirements diaphragm. :3ŒŽ27 ú,1985 l
