1 Vol. 50 No (Dec. 2009) Phenakistoscope Player 1, Phenakistoscope Player Phenakistoscope Player Phenakistoscope Player SightSound -Phenakistoscope- Media Performance System Phenakistoscope Player and the Artistic Activities Saburo Hirano, 1, 2 Hitoshi Akayama, 3 Shinta Inoue 1 and Haruhiro Katayose 2 This paper presents a media performance system called Phenakistoscope Player, the players of which are allowed to perform images and sounds simultaneously. Most of the media performance systems use a keyboard and a mouse as the interface, whereas, we employed a turntable and disk scores for a controller of the Phenakistoscope Player, inspired by Phenakistoscope invented as an animation device in 1830 s. In this paper, we describe the conceptual basis of the Phenakistoscope player and its implementation and show a media performance work titled SightSound -Phenakistoscope- for the Phenakistoscope Player. Possibilities and problems regarding expression in the interactive media arts are discussed based on the workshops and the performances we have given so far DJ Disc Jockey VJ Visual Jockey 2000 VJ VJ phenakistoscope Phenakistoscope Player P.S.player P.S.player 3.1 DJ MIDI 1 Kyoto Seika University 2 Kwansei Gakuin University 3 Tamagawa University 2954 c 2009 Information Processing Society of Japan
