2 Vol. ASD LGBTASD It was in an article published in the July issue of the conservative magazine Shincho 45 that Mio Sugita, a member of the ruling Liberal Democratic PartyLDP, described LGBTlesbian, gay, bisexual and transgenderpeople as unproductive. The sensational statement has caused predictable controversy and drawn a lot of attention from various fields. However, this statement is not the only problem the article reveals, but there are much worse and much more problematic descriptions found here in the article, based on misunderstandings and ignorance. Sugita wrote;are LGBT people really discriminated against so much? Even if one of my friends is gay or lesbian, I dont mind it at all. It is how the person is capable or not that matters. I think the same is true of most people, I hear their hardship of living is due not so much to social discrimination they suffer from, but to the lack of understanding of their parents, There are men and women in the world. Thats enough, isnt it? I am years old now. I was diagnosed with Gender Identity Disorder at the age of. I was also diagnosed with Pervasive Developmental Disordernow called Autism Spectrum Disorderat the age of. In this paper, I refer to the relationships between LGBT and ASD and, by detecting Orientalist stereotypes in the minds of non-lgbt or non-autistic people, try to confirm those discriminations found in Sugitas article resulting from ignorance, indifference and incomprehension of the majority. To analyze those discriminatory discourses, I employ an autoethnographic method, or a kind of selfnarrative approach which emphasizes the social context of discourses.
