(4) 審 査 員 よりコメント 3ヶ 月 という 期 間 に 対 して 日 常 でもできそうなことを 中 心 に 書 くなど テーマに 合 って いない 内 容 のものが 目 立 った また 忙 しい 日 々を 過 ごしているためか 興 味 関 心 が 自 分 自 身 にしか 向 いていないように 感 じられた (1 年 ) 文 法 の 間 違 いが 目 立 った ( 学 年 共 通 ) 想 像 力 に 富 んでいるものもあったが スペルミスが 目 立 ったり 構 文 力 や 文 章 構 成 能 力 が 望 まれるものも 多 かった また 具 体 性 に 乏 しかったり 人 に 読 んでもらうもの という 視 点 が 欠 けているように 感 じられる 作 品 が 多 く 見 られた (2 3 4 年 )

6. 最 優 秀 賞 受 賞 者 のコメント 1 年 の 部 兵 庫 県 立 芦 屋 国 際 中 等 教 育 学 校 4 年 次 武 田 智 恩 私 はエッセーを 書 く 時 その 中 で 日 本 がよりよい 国 になるために 自 分 が 何 を 伝 えたらいいか 考 えます 私 は 二 年 前 アメリカから 日 本 にやって 来 たので まだ 日 本 語 の 修 得 が 十 分 ではなく 自 分 が 長 い 間 言 いたかったけど 言 えなかったことがたくさんあります 今 の 私 が 日 本 語 で 何 かを 伝 えようとしたらうまくいきませんが 英 語 ならば 自 由 に 言 えます だから 英 語 で 日 本 の 人 々に 何 かを 伝 えなければならない 場 合 みんなのために 何 を 言 えば 役 に 立 つかを 考 えます 日 本 に 来 てコミュニケーションの 問 題 だけではなく 様 々な 悩 みを 経 験 してきているので いろいろなア ドバイスをしてあげられると 思 います わずかでも 毎 日 の 生 活 をより 強 く 前 向 きに 生 きるため の 手 助 けをしたいです いいエッセーを 書 くためには 周 りの 人 を 助 けたいという 気 持 ちで 書 くことが 必 要 だと 思 いま す 誰 でも 努 力 すれば 必 ず 結 果 は 出 るということをみんなに 気 づいて 欲 しいです 英 語 の 能 力 を 使 って 多 くの 日 本 の 人 々がより 強 くよりよい 自 分 を 発 見 し 育 てていけるようなエッセーを 書 きたいと 思 っています みなさんの 中 にもあるいろいろな 願 いをエッセーにして たくさんの 人 に 伝 えてみてください 2 3 4 年 の 部 兵 庫 県 立 国 際 高 等 学 校 2 年 武 田 智 賢 エッセイを 書 くときには 自 分 が 関 心 を 持 っているものについて 書 けば 一 番 上 手 くいくと 思 い ます やはり 関 心 がないものついて 書 くと そのことが 文 章 を 読 む 人 に 伝 わってしまいます 味 のない 文 章 になってしまうからです 強 い 興 味 や 関 心 があることについて 書 けば 必 ずいい 文 章 になると 私 は 信 じています だから エッセイや 他 の 文 章 を 書 こうとするときに 必 要 なのは 興 味 関 心 だと 思 います エッセイコンテストでは 指 定 のトピックが 出 されるので 何 についてで も 書 ける 訳 ではありませんが そのトピックについて 興 味 や 関 心 を 持 てるものを 探 すよう 努 力 し てエッセイを 書 けばいいと 思 います もし 自 分 が 言 いたいことを 英 語 でよく 伝 えられないのな ら 英 語 力 を 高 めるために 毎 日 日 記 を 英 語 で 書 いたり 物 語 を 英 語 で 読 んだりすればいいと 思 い ます このような 練 習 をすれば 英 語 力 も 上 達 し 文 章 を 上 手 にスラスラ 書 けるようになるでし ょう 英 語 に 興 味 を 持 ってください 英 語 を 習 うときにも やはり 興 味 関 心 が 大 事 だと 思 いま す だから 文 章 を 書 くには 内 容 の 整 理 だけではなく 気 持 ちの 整 理 もすればいいと 思 います

7. 最 優 秀 賞 受 賞 作 品 第 13 回 兵 庫 県 高 校 生 英 文 エッセーコンテスト 1 年 の 部 最 優 秀 作 品 Small Steps to Our Dreams 兵 庫 県 立 芦 屋 国 際 中 等 教 育 学 校 4 年 次 武 田 智 恩 When I first hear three months free time away from school, I would get very excited and think of all the places I could go to hang out with my friends. However, when I slowly think about it, I wouldn t want to waste these three months. Instead, I would create a schedule or make a goal to accomplish. Thinking of all the things I could do, I d get a part-time job to save up money. I would use the money for making donations to developing countries and to help others. Ever since elementary school, I ve always wanted to help developing countries; especially Africa. My dad has been to Africa to help out plenty of times, and some of the pictures he shared with me touched my heart. Being aware that these kids were the same age as me living with a lack of food and shelter, made me want to help them right away. To help children in need, I can at least start saving money for them. If I am lucky, maybe my dad will allow me to have a trip to Africa and be able to experience things myself. Being able to take a big step towards what I want to do in the future would be a great way to spend these three months. Since it hasn t been long from when I last traveled, the chances my dad would let me go to Africa are very low. Nevertheless, I still can open a bank account and start saving money for developing countries. The money I get by doing part-time jobs now might not seem a lot. However, if I continuously save up, the amount of money I have to use for developing countries may be enough to make a difference. Other than saving up and making donations, I can use some time to research developing countries and learn how I could help them. While doing my studies, I would also let other people know what is going on. The gap between people in developing countries and developed countries is too big, and I strongly believe something must be done. Three months may seem like a long time, but if I use this time to the fullest, it ll pass within a blink. In this time period I may not be able to make drastic changes, but just being able to start something and sticking to it is great. Having so much to give and knowledge to

help, I want to be able to have a strong shoulder for anyone to lean on. Even though I might not be able to go to Africa within these months, I d start saving up now so I can go in the future. Being able to make big changes will take step by step, going through many struggles and stubborn walls that won t move out of the way. By going through these obstacles, I hope the small changes I make in the three months will effect my future. A person in jail might say, freedom, while someone who has a long term disease might say, health. Many people will probably say, money. There will also be quite a number of people who will believe it s love. Although I try to avoid cliché s whenever possible, I strongly believe that the key to happiness in life is love. A while ago, I firmly believed it was money. Money can buy freedom because it can be used to pay bail. Money can buy health to pay for the surgery to cure a disease. However, what about after you bail out of jail or heal from your disease? What is the point if you don t have a loved one to share your happiness with? This is why it is a common phrase for people in hospital or jail to say, I want to go back to my family / friend. With enough love in your life, you can live happily, even without money. A man who can t find a job will be OK, as long as he has a mother to support him because she loves her son. A person in depression will heal with enough love from her friends and family. A smoker will quit smoking if someone he truly loves insists that he stops. In fact, this is the case where I became fully convinced that love is important for life. My uncle was a heavy smoker. He smoked ever since he was a teenager and always smelled of cigarettes. He was a sweet man, but he became uncharacteristically bad-tempered if he didn t smoke. My family knew it wasn t a good habit for him. Since he knew it hurt us, both physically and mentally, he began to smoke only when we weren t looking. Then one day, a miracle happened. My uncle got his first child, a beautiful baby boy.

My aunt told him, You really need to stop smoking now. Wouldn t you know it? My uncle never smoked again. It was the love for his son that saved his life. Never again did he get into one of his bad moods. Perhaps whatever had been stressing him into smoking had been cured by the love for his new son. Money got him cigarettes, but love got him a son. With his son, he will continue to bring more love into his life. That is the greatest thing about love. If you love, you can only get more out of it. It is just as the famous band, the Beetles have said, All you need is love. This is why I hope that even in the future, whether I am a hobo or millionaire, I will always be surrounded by love.
