ENGLISH OPERATION MANUAL Thank you for purchasing this KENWOOD product. To obtain the best performance from this product, please read this manual carefully. Please refer to the illustrations in the Japanese instruction when operating this unit. POWER SOURCE When using the unit with the rechargeable battery (15 to 17 pages) 1 Open the lid of the included recharger and insert the rechargeable battery. Be sure to set the rechargeable battery in the proper direction. 2 Close the recharger's lid, lift the plug and plug it into a power outlet. 3 The battery charge indicator lights. The indicator turns off in about 3 hours. 4 Open the battery lid. 5 Insert the rechargeable battery, being sure to place it in the proper direction, and close the lid. When using the unit with the Commercially sold AA alkaline battery (LR 6) (18 page) 1 Fasten the battery case securely to the unit and turn the LOCK knob in the direction of the arrow. 2 Open the included battery case. 3 Insert the battery in the case, being sure to place it in the proper direction, then close the lid. Normal playback (20 to 21 pages) 1 Plug in the remote control and headphones. Insert the plug fully.

2 Inserting a recorded MiniDisc. (1) Slide the OPEN slider in the direction shown by the arrow to open the disc holder. (2) Insert the arrow end of the MiniDisc first, while pushing the center of the Minidisc. (3) Close the disc holder. 3 Press the 6 key of the remote control unit or the 3/ key of the main unit. To playback various ways (23 to 24 pages) To Interrupt playback (only by remote control operation) Move the beginning of the next track Restart the track currently being played Procedure (main unit or remote control) Press the 6 key. Press the 6 key again to resume playback. (During playback) Press the key of the remote control unit or the 3/ key of the main unit. (During playback) Press the 4 key of the remote control or main unit. To adjust the volume (22 page) Press the + key to increase the volume. Press the key to reduce the volume. To stop playback (24 page) Press the 7 (stop/off) key. After stopping playback or turning off the power, if the 3 key is pressed, playback will resume from the start of the track that playback was stopped. If the MiniDisc is changed, playback will start at the first track. When about 3 minutes have passed after playback has stopped, the unit will automatically turn off the power. Total number of tracks is displayed during stop status. To turn off the power (24 page) Press the 7 (stop/off) key while the unit is in the stop mode. To remove a MiniDisc (24 page) Slide the OPEN slider in the direction indicated by the arrow and remove MD.

Fast forward/fast reverse (SEARCH) (only by remote control operation) (25 page) Press the MODE key once (during playback). Press and hold down either the key or the 4 key. For forward search: Keep pressing the key during playback. For reverse search: Keep pressing the 4 key during playback. When you lift your finger off the key, normal playback will be resumed. Changing the display (only by remote control operation) (26 page) Press the MODE key twice (during playback or stop status). The mode changes each time the, 4 key is pressed. When pressed during STOP operation: (1) Disc name (2) Total number of tracks (3) KENWOOD logo display When pressed during PLAY operation: (1) Title of track being played (2) Elapsed time of track currently being played (3) UUKENWOODUU logo display Note: This unit can display katakana characters which conform to the MD standard specifications. If a nonstandard disc is played back, katakana characters may not be displayed. Changing the play mode (only by remote control operation) (27 page) Press the MODE key 3 times (during playback or stop). The random playback mode and intro game modes can not be operated during playback. The mode changes each time the or 4 keys are pressed. When pressed during PLAY operation: When pressed during STOP operation: P.MODE : Released P.MODE : Released P.MODE(p1) : Repetition of a single track P.MODE(p1) : Repetition of a single track P.MODE(pALL) : Repetition of all track P.MODE(pALL) : Repetition of all track P.MODE(RDM) : Playback in random order When pressed during RANDOM operation: igame1(rdm) : Intro game mode 1 (Mode with P.MODE(RDM) : Playback in random order shortest introduction) igame1(rdm) : Intro game mode 1 (Mode with igame2(rdm) : Intro game mode 2 (Mode with introduction longer than in intro game mode 1) shortest introduction) igame2(rdm) : Intro game mode 2 (Mode with introduction longer than in intro game mode 1) longest introduction) igame3(rdm) : Intro game mode 3 (Mode with igame3(rdm) : Intro game mode 3 (Mode with longest introduction)

Changing the sound mode (only by remote control operation) (30 page) Press the MODE key 4 times (during playback or stop). The mode changes each time the or 4 keys are pressed. USER NORMAL Setting the sound of your liking (31 page) 1 Press the MODE key for 2 seconds or longer (during playback or stop). 2 Press the and 4 keys while BASS is displayed and set the bass sound. 3 Press the MODE key once while the bass sound level is displayed. 4 Press the and 4 keys while TREB is displayed and set the treble sound. SOUND1 SOUND2 SOUND3 Select the sound of your liking SOUND4 SOUND5 : Set the sound of your liking : Cancel the sound mode CONVENIENT FUNCTIONS Avoiding faulty operation (HOLD) (19 page) When you are operating the unit on a train or when you are carrying it with the power off, this function allows you to prevent faulty operation due to accidental key operation. (Both the main unit and remote control should be carried with the HOLD function engaged.) Slide the HOLD switch in the direction indicated by the arrow. Setting the operating tone (beep) (only by remote control operation) (33 page) 1 Press the MODE key for 2 seconds or longer (during playback or stop). 2 Press the MODE key twice while BASS is displayed. 3 Press the or 4 key while BP on is displayed. The mode changes each time the or 4 keys are pressed. BP off : The operating tone will beep twice, but will then stop beeping. BP on : The operating tone will beep once, and will then beep when an operation key is pressed. Checking the battery level (32 page) Press the MODE key 5 times (during playback or stop). The battery level display does not change in proportion to the playback time. Use it as a guide. When the battery is almost completely exhausted, the character information will flash (remote control). When the battery has completely run out, LoBATT will be displayed on the remote control. The power to the player will be disconnected automatically.
