鹿児島の留学生 第23号 2013.7 鹿児島地域留学生交流推進会議
Life is the real school Ancah Caesarina Novi Marchianti This story isn t a fiction or a fact, it s just about what I see, listen and feel while in Kagoshima and now let s the story begin. 1 st October 2010, first time I stepped my feet in Kagoshima is in Kagoshima International Airport. Soon, I had been stunning by beautiful view along the road to the city. I am here to continue my study. It s happen that they have PhD program in my research interest and because there is MoU between the place I work as a lecturer, Jember University and Kagoshima University. In the first year, I lived in Kagoshima University dormitory, it was such a great experience to exchange culture and make friends with many foreign students as well as Japanese students. As a newly living abroad of course I experienced some culture shock, especially about foods and praying. I did not realize before I came that it could be difficult to get halal food or place to pray, but then it s almost caused no trouble later by the help of Indonesian friends, and friends in dormitory or laboratory. After moved out I live now in apartment very near to my laboratory, in Sakuragaoka. Here, I did my research five days a week with special model of genetic modified mice. I experienced three times local and international conference until now. My research theme is about the effect of exercise on Diabetes Mellitus type II. I try to reveal the mechanism of exercise on prevention and improvement of diabetes status. To promote exercise more, not only on healthy individual but also diabetes patient with specific/suitable regiment of exercise. While in Kagoshima I would like to gain experience whether in science from studying in University or other education from life. Such as being in KUFSA, where I can interact with many people, to learn from them, to create events so we all can interact and learn more from each other. After all, life is the real school. Later when I return to Indonesia, when I gather with my daughters and husband, I hope all the knowledge I get here can be useful for my country. I am very grateful to all friends, Sensei and everyone who keep me survive. If you have time, please visit my country and I will be very pleased to welcome you.
