This is a Japanese translation of three stories from parts one and three of the original Bengali text. The first two stories, Sīt and Bashanta and Kiranmālā, are magical stories. Heroes of these stories struggle with adversities created by their stepmothers and, in the end, they are able to rebuild their kingdoms with the help of magical birds. In the last story, Shiyāl Pandit (Jackal Teacher), a cunning jackal plays a trick on a crocodile and on human beings. Key words: Bengal, Folktale, Dakshinaranjan Mitramajumdar, Thakurmar Jhuli
