According to Nihon no doyo, kodomo no uta no genjo to bunseki, a joint research conducted by the National Association of College Music Education, many of the songs written by Toshihiko Shinzawa have been nominated for use by childcare practitioners around Japan. The present study looks into the lyrics of his songs to find what makes his songs so widely supported by practitioners in childcare facilities around Japan. As a result all three components: experience, imagination, and expression, were identified in Shinzawa s lyrics, which provides evidence for the fact that his songs support the development of a child s sensitivity. In addition, not only were these three components incorporated in his lyrics, but they were also interrelated in sequence: experience imagination expression. This suggests an existence of an interactional cycle of favorable heart-toheart feelings between childcare practitioners and children, in which both parties come to share common values and create a sense of empathy by singing the songs written by Shinzawa. Key words: sensitivity, experience, imagination, expression, connection, favorable heart-to-heart feelings
