GP Teacher Training GP Project: Current Situation and Future Challenges of a Teacher Training Project Centered Around the Clinical School Education Training Program YUKAWA Emiko Professor, College of Letters YAMADA Hiromi Assistant Administrative Manager, Administrative office, College of Letters Abstract Ritsumeikan University s teacher training project, for which the Clinical School Education Training Program of the College of Letters served as the core program, received funding from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology MEXT for the school years as one of its Teacher Training Promotion Programs at Undergraduate and Graduate Schools in the form of a Teacher Training GP Good Practice grant. This article discusses the purpose, contents and results of the two-year project, as well as challenges that remain for the Clinical School Education Training Program, which will continue to operate after the end of the MEXT funding period. To date, Ritsumeikan University has trained many primary and secondary school teachers. Considering the history and the social significance of such a practice, and responding to current demand for practical skills in pre-service teachers, the College of Letters has recently been providing a program outside of the courses required for a teaching license; this program combines a new set of courses equivalent to - credits plus related extra-curricular training activities. Written just before the first group of students who took this program is set to graduate, this article reconsiders the significance of this program, especially for the teacher training practice of a private university like Ritsumeikan.
