A Study of the Comprehensive Framework of Action for Job Retention amongst the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Makoto IWAYAMA Abstract The purpose of this paper is to study the necessity of action for job retention amongst the deaf and hard of hearing and what appropriate framework could be used for such action. The paper begins by finding out trends relating to the deaf and hard of hearing leaving their jobs and the problems they face in the workplace by analyzing various statistics related to the acceptance of disabled people, in order to stress the necessity for action to promote their acceptance in the workplace. Furthermore, the paper sets out a comprehensive framework aimed at promoting job retention, which was constructed after considering the significance and problems of the various strategies that have been suggested in research to date. This framework puts an emphasis on efforts by the deaf and hard of hearing and the companies they work for to achieve stable acceptance in the workplace through the appropriate assistance by work support organizations which have both knowledge of the deaf and hard of hearing and support know-how.
