Ha nacido en Chile el gobierno de Salvador Allende de la Unidad Popular con apoyo de Partido Demócrata Cristiano en asamblea conjunta en el parlamento después de la elección presidencial realizada el 4 de setiembre de 1970. Para la formacón de Unidad Popular contribuyó mucho la radicalización del Partido Radical y el levantamiento de la ala izquierdista interna del PDC aumentando su descontento con el ritmo de la reforma agraria del Gobierno de Eduardo Frei del PDC en 1968-69.
