Operating Instructions 42 Refer to page 36-37 for the locations of the controls. Selecting Modes (See page 11) You need to select a mode before performing most operations. 1. Press C. 2. 1 Within 10 seconds, move < up or down to select the mode. 2 Within 10 seconds, press < to confirm. The modes change as follows when you move <. (File lock) (Recording mode) (Microphone sensitivity) (VOS function) (Operation tone) (Timer recording) (Timer play) (Time setting) (Title editing) (Format card) Setting the time (See page 9) Insert the batteries and confirm the year display is flashing. (If not, press C to enter the setting mode, use < to select Time setting, then press < to enter the mode.) 1. Use < to select the year and press to confirm. 2. Use < to select the month and day and press to confirm. 3. Use < to select 24- or 12-hour display and press to confirm. 4. Use < to set the present time and press to confirm. Insert an SD card (See page 10) 1. Open the card cover. 2. Insert label-up with the cut-off corner facing in. 3. Press on the center of the card so it locks into place and close the cover. Recording (See page 12) 1. Press E to select the folder to record into. 2. Press? to start recording. 3. Press @ to stop recording. To pause recording Press and hold? until B flashes. Press again to resume recording. To check available recording time Press C while recording. Press again to restore the display. When or is displayed: There is no available time or there are no available file numbers to record into. To continue recording, erase unneeded files or purchase a new card. Changing recording mode 1. Select recording mode ( Selecting Modes). 2. Within 10 seconds, use < to select the required mode (:high quality, SP:standard, LP:long) and press to confirm. Changing microphone sensitivity 1. Select microphone sensitivity ( Selecting Modes). 2. Within 10 seconds, use < to select the required mode and press to confirm. VOS function (preventing unnecessary recording) 1. Select VOS function ( Selecting Modes). 2. Within 10 seconds, use < to select (on) and press to confirm ( lights). Select (off) when making important recordings. Playback (See page 16) 1. Press E to select the folder containing the file you want to play. 2. Use < to select the file you want to play. 3. Press <. 4. Press ; to adjust volume. To check the remaining playback time Press C during play. Press again to restore the display. To listen to the first few seconds of each file (Intro-scan) Press and hold < while stopped. To change playback speed Use the play speed switch (4) to select the required speed. Operating tone (See page 19) Turn the BEEP tone on (factory setting) or off. 1. Select operation tone ( Selecting Modes). 2. Within 10 seconds, use < to select (on) or (off) and press to confirm. 43

Operating Instructions Dividing files (See page 24) Preparation: Select the folder and the file to divide. 1. Press < to start playback of the file. 2. Press D at the point you want to divide the file. 3. Within 10 seconds, press and hold D. Moving files (See page 26) Preparation: Select the folder and the file you want to move. 1. Press < to start playback of the file. 2. Press E. 3. Use < to select the folder you want to move the file to. 4. Within 10 seconds, press <. Adding a folder (See page 23) 1. Press and hold E for 2 seconds. 2. Press < to confirm. 3. Use < to select a preset title (see page 23 for a list of titles) and press to confirm. There can be up to 9 folders. Deleting a folder (See page 24) Preparation: Select the folder you want to delete. 1. While pressing =, press and hold E. 2. Press and hold = for 2 seconds. You cannot erase the four original folders. Erasing files (See page 20) Preparation: Select the folder. 1. Press and hold = to display. 2. Within 10 seconds, use < to select the file, all files in the folders or all folders you want to erase. 3. Within 10 seconds, press =. While erasing files, do not open the battery cover, open or close the card cover, or remove the card. File lock (See page 21) Preparation: Select the folder and the file you want to lock. 1. Press C so flashes. 2. Within 10 seconds, press <. 3. Within 10 seconds, use < to select (on) then press it. Select (off) to unlock. Format card (See page 22) Formatting is only necessary if the card cannot be read by the unit. 1. Select format card ( Selecting Modes). 2. Within 10 seconds, press <. 3. Within 10 seconds, press and hold < again for 2 seconds to format the card. All data on the card is erased. Four folders are created. You cannot format if the card is locked. Timer recording and playback (See page 31) Preparation: Select the folder to record into or the file to play. 1. Select timer recording or timer play ( Selecting Modes). 2. Within 10 seconds, use < to select (on) and press to confirm. 3. Set the time 1 Within 10 seconds, use < to set the on time and press to confirm. (For timer recording) 2 Within 10 seconds, use < to set the off time and press to confirm. Either FREC or FPLAY lights when setting is finished. Select (off) in step 2 to cancel. You cannot use the two timers at the same time. You can set the timer within 24 hours of the present time. Title editing (See page 27) 1. Select title editing ( Selecting Modes). 2. Use < to select either file or folder editing. 3. Use < to select the position where you want to start entering the title and press to confirm. 4. Use < to select the character and press to confirm ( page 30 for a list of characters). Repeat to enter other characters. 5. Press and hold < for 1 second. 6. Press < to confirm. You can enter up to 32 characters with this unit. Making corrections 1. Do above steps 1 to 3. 2. Use < to select the character you want to correct and press to confirm. 3.
