Te-Form We are learning a new verb conjugation called Te-form, which allows us to express; 1. making requests: ~, please 2. giving and asking for permission: You may ~ / May I ~? 3. stating that something is forbidden: You must not ~. 4. describing two events or activities in a sentence: I did this and did that. The conjugation for る -verbs is the simplest of all; remove る then add て. For example, おきる becomes おきて. The conjugation for う -verb is subcategorized into 5, according to the final syllable of their dictionary form. 1. For う つ る ; remove う / つ / る then add って. Thus, まつ becomes まって. 2. For む ぶ ぬ ; remove む / ぶ / ぬ then add んで. Thus しぬ becomes しんで. 3. For く * ; remove く then add いて. Thus きく becomes きいて. 4
4. For ぐ ; remove ぐ then add いで. Thus いそぐ becomes いそいで. 5. For す ; remove す then add して. Thus かえす becomes かえして. *With exception for 行く, whose final syllable is [ く ], however instead of adding [ いて ] we add [ って ]. The conjugation of irregular verbs is best to be memorized since there are only two. する becomes して. くる becomes きて. W.
