Sect., 55 : ISSN As the Jurassic to Cretaceous Tetori Group includes thin shallow marine deposits in thick terrestrial sequences, it is suitable for understanding environmental and biological changes and basin developments in the marginal area of Asian continent. A coherent stratigraphy of the group throughout the whole area is needed for an understanding of the problem. Hitherto, regional formation names of the group were separately given for sequences in some areas of the greater Mount Hakusan region that is a main area of exposure for the group. Coherent stratigraphy of the group is revealed through our new geological correlation between the areas. The group in the Kuzuryugawa area is divided into five formations; the Tochimochiyama, Kaizara, Yambara, Izuki and Nochino formations in ascending order. These formations are correlative with seven formations in a main area; the Tochimochiyama is correlative with the Ushimaru, the Kaizara with the Mitarai, the Yambara with the Otaniyama, the Izuki with the Okurodani and the Nochino with the Amagodani, the Okura and the Bessandani. From the occurrence of three molluscan assemblages, the transgression-phase is recognizable in the type section of the Izuki Formation. This concurs with the sequence of occurrences of nonmarine bivalves of Myrene (Mesocorbicula) tetoriensis and marine inoceramid and pectinids bivalves in the Izuki Formation in its eastern outcrops. The Tetori Flora was previously divided into two components: the Oguchi Flora and the Akaiwa Flora. Our stratigraphic studies show that these occurrences are the same horizon. Thus the Tetori Flora is a single assemblage only distinguished by two separate localities of occurrence. The terms Oguchi Flora and Akaiwa Flora can therefore be abandoned for the term the Tetori Flora.
