5 Introduction Thank you for purchasing the port replicator for the Panasonic CF-C2 notebook computer series *1. In combination of the computer and this product, you can connect variety of devices. *1 This port replicator cannot be used for other models. Accessories Operating Instructions (This book)...1 DVD Drive Utility Disc *2...1 *2 This contains the programs used to install Roxio Creator TM LJB (hereafter, Roxio Creator LJB) and PowerDVD TM (OEM Version) (hereafter, PowerDVD). About software overview and installing the software, see Software Guide in DVD Drive Utility Disc. See Software Guide in DVD Drive Utility Disc : 1.Log on to Windows as an administrator. 2.Set DVD Drive Utility Disc in the drive. 3. Windows 8 A Right-click any empty location on the Start screen and click [All apps] on the toolbar. B Click [Run] under Windows System, input x:\manual\index.hta *3 then click [OK]. Windows 7 Click (Start) and input x:\manual\index.hta *3 in [Search programs and files] and press Enter. *3 x is the drive letter. You can change the letter to suit your preference. 6 Handling Care Drive Handling Care Do not expose the drive to excessive smoke that may leave a residue, e.g., oil smoke, or tobacco smoke. Doing so can shorten the life of the drive lens. We recommend cleaning the drive lens with an air puffer used for camera lenses. (Do not use any spray-type of lens cleaning products.) When opening/closing the tray When the computer is on, use the eject button ( page 11) or eject through Windows. When inserting or removing a disc, be careful not to touch the lens and other parts of the laser pickup. Do not leave the tray open and do not touch the lens and other parts of the laser pickup. The laser pickup and disc can become dusty in some conditions. It may cause malfunction in reading or writing. Do not apply excessive force to the tray in the open position. Never insert a foreign object such as a paper clip into the drive. Doing so may cause malfunction. Do not place items other than discs on the tray. While the drive is being accessed Do not open the tray or move the Port Replicator while the drive is being accessed. Doing so could cause the disc to shift position and this may damage the disc, or cause the drive to malfunction. In addition, after running an application involving access to a disc, close the application before opening the tray. Do not apply excessive shocks or disconnect/ connect cables, cards, etc. Doing so may result in read/write errors. Do not write on the surface of the disc with a ballpoint pen or other writing instrument. Do not drop, bend, or place heavy objects on top of discs. Do not place or store discs in locations exposed to heat, direct sunlight, humidity or dust. If a disc is brought from a cold to a warm location, condensation may form on the disc. <For read-only discs> Wipe off the condensation using a soft, dry, lintfree cloth before using the disc. <For recordable/rewritable discs> Wait until the condensation dries. When not using discs, keep them in their protective cases or cartridges. To clean discs <For read-only discs> Wipe discs with a dry, soft cloth from the center toward the edge. If discs get very dirty, wipe with a moist, soft cloth from the center toward the edge, then wipe again with a dry cloth to take up remaining moisture. Correct Incorrect <For recordable/rewritable discs> Use the recordable/rewritable disc cleaner to clean these discs. Do not use a cloth, CD cleaners or any other such cleaners under any circumstances. How to hold a disc Correct Incorrect Disc Handling Care Before using a disc, carefully read the operating/ handling instructions and package of the disc. If the discs are not handled appropriately, they may become dirty or scratched. Furthermore the writing speed may get slower and the data may not be correctly written on or read from the disc. Other damage may cause a drive failure. Use discs with the appropriate write/rewrite speeds. Do not touch the disc surface (the side with no printing). Keep the disc surface clean and free from dirt, dust, fingerprints and scratches. 6

7 Names and Functions of Parts The port replicator allows your peripheral devices to function exactly as if they were connected directly to the computer. (Refer to Description of Parts in the Operating Instructions accompanying the computer.) CAUTION Do not touch the port replicator connector, pins or terminals of the port replicator. Rear VGA Port: Connect the external display compatible with analog interface. The HDMI2 port and VGA port cannot be used simultaneously. If cables are connected to both the HDMI2 and VGA ports, the VGA port will have priority. USB 3.0 Ports: These can be used only when the AC adaptor is connected. DC-IN Jack: DC IN 15.6V Security Lock: LOCK A Kensington cable can be connected. LAN Port: For more information, read the manual that comes with the cable. HDMI Ports: Left: HDMI1 port Right: HDMI2 port Connector for HDMI compatible digital display. It is not compatible with the analog display. The display specifications of the maximum resolution, etc. that can be output differ according to the specifications of the device connected. For details, refer to the specifications of the device connected. The HDMI2 port and VGA port cannot be used simultaneously. If cables are connected to both the HDMI2 and VGA ports, the VGA port will have priority. Front/Right Side Lever Slide the lever all the way back to release the computer. Port Replicator Connector This connects to the Expansion Bus Connector on the bottom of the computer. Latch CD/DVD Drive 7

8 Connecting / Disconnecting CAUTION Do not connect or disconnect the port replicator while the computer is powered on or in the sleep or hibernation mode. Connecting A. Power off the computer, and disconnect all cables from the computer. B. Connect the AC adaptor that came with the computer to the port replicator and plug the other end into an AC outlet. CAUTION Refer to the Operating Instructions accompanying computer for information on proper handling of the AC adaptor and AC cord. C. Align the front of the computer with the latch on the port replicator, and gently place the computer on the port replicator. CAUTION Do not connect the computer to a port replicator while the AC adaptor or other cables is connected to the computer. Do not attempt to make connections if there is any object between the computer and the port replicator. Doing so could damage the computer and the ort replicator. D. Push the areas indicated by the arrows to set the computer. CAUTION While connecting the computer to the port replicator: Do not attempt to move the port replicator. Do not open the display wider than necessary (180 or more), and do not apply excessive pressure to the LCD. It is impossible to remove the battery pack. If the computer malfunctions while the port replicator is attached, disconnect the port replicator and check to see if the computer operates normally. If the computer operates normally, the port replicator may be malfunctioning. Contact your technical support office. Disconnecting A. Power off the computer and close the display. B. Slide the lever all the way back. The computer s connector disengages the port replicator connector of the port replicator. C. Lift up the computer to remove it from the port replicator. 8

9 CAUTION If the port replicator is connected to the computer, connect the LAN cable and VGA cable to the jack and port on the port replicator. Do not use the LAN port and VGA port on the computer. Do not connect/disconnect peripheral devices in sleep or hibernation. If devices connected to USB 3.0 ports do not operate, confirm the AC adaptor is connected to DC-IN of the port replicator. When using the USB port, make sure that [Port Replicator USB Port] is enabled in the [Advanced] menu of the Setup Utility. For more information about the settings and preparations of the peripheral devices, refer to the peripheral devices own operating instructions. When connecting the external display to either of the ports, lines or letters may blur. In that case, lower the resolution. 9

10 Using the External Display Refer to Reference Manual External Display. Switching the Display To switch using the keys A. Press key + or +. B. Click the display mode. To switch using the display driver A. Right-click the desktop, and click [Graphics Properties]. B. Click [Multiple Displays]. C. Select the display in [Operating Mode], and click [Apply]. D. Click [OK]. E. If necessary, click [General Settings], set the color depth, resolution, etc., and click [OK]. Windows 7 When 2 external displays compatible with analog interface and HDMI1 respectively are connected at the same time and when [Display] is set to [External Monitor] in the Setup Utility, the display compatible with HDMI will take priority over the display compatible with analog interface. NOTE When external displays are connected to both the VGA port and HDMI1 port, if you select [Clone Displays] or [Extended Desktop], 3 displays are shown for [Primary Display] and [Second Display] respectively under [Multiple Displays]. An HDMI compatible display or analog display are indicated as [Digital Television] and internal LCD as [Built-in Display]. When switching from the analog display to the internal display, the following message may appear on the analog display. Out of range Switching the audio output destination while connecting the HDMI compatible display A. Windows 8 Open the Control Panel, and then click [Hardware and Sound] - [Sound]. To open the Control Panel, proceed as follows on the [Start] screen. 1.Right-click any empty location on the Start screen. 2.Click [All Apps] on the toolbar. 3.Click [Control Panel] under Windows System Tools. Windows 7 Click (Start) - [Control Panel] - [Hardware and Sound] - [Sound]. B. Select the audio output destination. C. Click [Set Default] and click [OK]. NOTE When connecting an HDMI compatible display without speakers mounted, audio may not be output from this unit and the HDMI compatible display. Follow the above steps to change the setting so the audio is output from this unit s speaker. 10

11 Using the Drive Setting a Disc A. Turn on the computer. B. Press the eject button (A) and slowly pull out the tray. A C. Insert/Remove the disc. To insert Set the disc with the label side up and press the center of the disc until it clicks in place. To remove Press on the center spindle (B) and carefully lift up the edge of the disc. D. Close the tray. Do not press the eject button. NOTE The drive indicator on the computer will blink while the disc is being accessed. To remove a disc when the computer is powered off, insert a pointed object (e.g., the bent-out tip of a paper clip) into the emergency hole (C). Pushing it to the end allows the tray to come out. If the vibration of the drive is excessive, check the disc. For AutoPlay CD/DVD: If an AutoPlay CD/DVD does not start after the computer resumes from sleep or hibernation, remove the disc from the drive and then reinsert it after waiting 15 seconds. An AutoPlay CD/DVD may start during file access depending on the status of the disc. When playing back video from a disc, playback may not be smooth in some conditions. Power-saving Mode If the drive is not accessed for 30 seconds, the drive motor will automatically be shut down to reduce the power consumption. When the drive is accessed again, the drive motor is turned on. In this case, reading of the disc data will take approximately 30 seconds. To play DVD-Video or MPEG2 files Install the DVD playback software using DVD Drive Utility Disc. For information on how to install the software, refer to Software Guide with DVD Drive Utility Disc. Region Code Setting DVD-Videos are allocated to region codes according to where they are sold. To play a DVD-Video, the DVD disc and the drive must have the corresponding region code. e.g., For U.S.A. and Canada: 1 For Europe: 2 B C 11

12 Using the Drive The region code of the drive is not set at purchase. The operation depends on the DVD-Video that is first played. DVD-Video with a specific region code: The drive will automatically be set at the same region code as the DVD-Video. DVD-Video with multiple region codes: The screen to change the region code appears. Set the region code. CAUTION You can change the region code setting up to five times including the initial setting. Be extremely careful because you cannot change the region code anymore after the fifth change, even if you reinstalled the operating system. Any problem resulting from illegal changing or altering of the region code is the user s responsibility. NOTE The screen to change the region code appears when the DVD-Video has only one region code and the drive is set for another region code. Writing to Discs Windows 8 and Windows 7 include the standard function that enables you to write or rewrite data to a disc. You can copy a CD/DVD or create a music CD, data CD/DVD, etc. by installing Roxio Creator LJB using the DVD Drive Utility Disc. Be sure to use discs conforming to the proper write speeds. ( page 15) If the write operation is to involve a long period of time, be sure to connect the AC adaptor of the computer. If the battery power runs low and the power of the computer is cut, the write operation may end in failure. You can read from/write to the following discs. 14 Troubleshooting Devices connected to the USB 3.0 ports Check if the AC adaptor is connected to the power terminal do not operate of the port replicator. Power can be turned on, however, Windows Disconnect peripheral devices, such as a USB memory. The computer does not resume (return) from sleep or hibernation Slide the power switch to turn the power on in the following cases. Note that unsaved data is lost. The AC adaptor was disconnected in sleep. Peripheral devices were connected/disconnected. The power switch was slid for 4 seconds or more and Windows was forcibly terminated. The computer does not power off (Windows does not shut down) If a peripheral is connected, disconnect it, and then shut down. If it is possible to shut down when the peripheral is disconnected, then there may be a problem with the peripheral. Contact the manufacturer of such devices. Nothing is displayed or the display does not appear properly on the external display connected to the HDMI terminal. The HDMI compatible display does not support the HDMI connection on the computer. When the HDMI compatible display does not support the HDMI connection on the computer, the screen may appear blurry, or the output destination may not be switched by pressing key + or +. The audio output from the HDMI compatible display cannot be turned on/off audio output from the HDMI compatible display. An error may occur if, after the tray has been closed or operation has been resumed from the sleep/hibernate modes, the drive is accessed before the drive indicator goes off. Also, an error may occur if the drive is accessed by the application software automatically. In a case like this, remove the disc, re-insert it, and try again. ( page 11) Roxio Creator LJB does not work properly Is writing software other than Roxio Creator LJB installed? Cannot eject disc Uninstall the writing software other than Roxio Creator LJB. Turn on the computer. To remove a disc when the computer is powered off, insert a pointed object (e.g., the bent-out tip of a paper clip) into the emergency hole (A). Pushing it completely to the end will free the tray so that it can be pulled out. A If a disc with fingerprints or other dirt is used, you may not be able to remove it. Use a clean disc. 21 Hinweise zum Umgang Sorgfältiger Umgang mit dem Laufwerk Das Laufwerk darf keinem übermäßigen Rauch ausgesetzt werden, der zu Ablagerungen führen kann, wie z. B. Fett- oder Tabakdämpfen. Anderenfalls könnte die Lebensdauer der Laufwerkslinse verkürzt werden. Wir empfehlen die Reinigung der Laufwerkslinse mit einem Blasebalg, der auch zum Reinigen von Kameraobjektiven verwendet wird. (Verwenden Sie zum Reinigen der Linse keine Reinigungssprays.) Öffnen/Schließen des Fachs Wenn der Computer eingeschaltet ist, verwenden Sie die Auswurftaste (è Seite 27) oder öffnen Sie das Disc-Fach über Windows. Achten Sie beim Einlegen oder Entnehmen einer Disc darauf, dass Sie die Linse und andere Teile der Lasereinheit nicht berühren. Lassen Sie das Fach nicht offen, und berühren Sie die Linse und andere Teile der Lasereinheit nicht. Unter bestimmten Bedingungen kann sich Staub auf der Lasereinheit und der Disc absetzen. Daraus können Lese- oder Schreibfehler resultieren. Achten Sie darauf, das geöffnete Fach nicht zu stark zu belasten. Führen Sie in das Laufwerk keine Fremdkörper wie z. B. Büroklammern ein. Sorgfältige Handhabung der Discs Bevor Sie Discs verwenden, lesen Sie die Bedienungsanleitung, die Anleitungen zur Handhabung von Discs und alle Hinweise auf der Disc-Verpackung aufmerksam durch. Falls die Discs nicht richtig behandelt werden, können sie verschmutzt oder zerkratzt werden. Außerdem kann sich die Schreibgeschwindigkeit verringern, und die Daten werden möglicherweise nicht korrekt aufgezeichnet oder wiedergegeben. Andere Beschädigungen könnten zu einem Laufwerkversagen führen. Verwenden Sie Discs mit geeigneter Schreib-/ Rewrite-Geschwindigkeit. Berühren Sie nie die (unbedruckte) Datenoberfläche der Disc. Halten Sie die Disc-Oberfläche sauber und frei von Schmutz, Staub und Fingerabdrücken, und vermeiden Sie Kratzer. Schreiben Sie nicht mit einem Kugelschreiber oder anderen Schreibinstrumenten auf die Disc- Oberfläche. Discs dürfen weder fallengelassen noch verbo- gen oder durch schwere Gegenstände belastet werden. Bewahren Sie Discs nicht an einem Ort, wo sie hohen Temperaturen, direkter Sonneneinstrahlung, Feuchtigkeit oder Staub ausgesetzt sind. Wenn Discs aus kalten in warme Räume ge- bracht werden, kann auf ihnen Feuchtigkeit kondensieren. <Für Nur-Lese-Discs> Entfernen Sie Kondenswasser mit einem weichen, trockenen, fusselfreien Tuch bevor Sie die Disc in das Laufwerk einlegen. <Für wieder beschreibbare Discs> Warten Sie, bis das Kondenswasser abgetrocknet ist. Wenn die Discs nicht verwendet werden, bewah- ren Sie sie in ihren Schutzhüllen oder Kassetten auf. 21

22 Hinweise zum Umgang Discreinigung <Für Nur-Lese-Discs> Wischen Sie die Disc mit einem weichen, trockenen Tuch geradlinig von der Mitte nach außen ab. Falls die Disc stark verschmutzt ist, wischen Sie sie mit einem weichen, feuchten Tuch ab, indem Sie von der Mitte gerade nach außen wischen, und wischen Sie dann mit einem trockenen Tuch nach, um die verbleibende Feuchtigkeit aufzunehmen. Gut Schlecht <Für wieder beschreibbare Discs> Verwenden Sie ein Reinigungsmittel für wiederbeschreibbare Discs, um diese Discs zu reinigen. 23 Namen und Funktionen der Teile Mit dem Portreplikator können Ihre Peripheriegeräte genau so arbeiten, als wären sie direkt mit dem Computer verbunden. (Siehe Beschreibung der Teile in der Ihrem Computer beiliegenden Bedienungsanleitung.) VORSICHT Berühren Sie den Stecker, die Pins oder die terminals des Portreplikator nicht. Hinten VGA-Anschluss: Schließen Sie hier ein externes Display an, das mit analogen Schnittstellen kompatibel ist. Der HDMI2-Anschluss und der VGA-Anschluss können nicht gleichzeitig verwendet werden. Wenn sowohl an den HDMI2-Anschluss als auch an den VGA-Anschluss Kabel angeschlossen sind, hat der VGA-Anschluss Vorrang. USB 3.0-Ports: Nur bei angeschlossenem DC-IN-Buchse: DC IN 15.6V Netzteil verwendbar. Sicherheitssperre: LOCK Hier kann ein Kensington-Kabel angeschlossen werden. 24 Anschließen / Entfernen VORSICHT Verbinden oder trennen Sie den Portreplikator nicht, während der Computer eingeschaltet, im Modus energie sparen oder im Ruhezustand ist. Anschließen A. Schalten Sie den Computer aus und trennen Sie alle Kabel vom Computer. B. Schließen Sie das Netzteil, das mit dem Computer mitgeliefert wurde, an den Portreplikator an und stecken Sie den Stecker des Netzteils in die Steckdose. VORSICHT Siehe die Bedienungsanleitung des Computers zu Informationen zum richtigen Umgang mit dem Netzteil und dem Netzkabel. C. Richten Sie die Vorderseite des Computers an der Rastnase des Portreplikators aus und setzen Sie den Computer vorsichtig auf den Portreplikator. VORSICHT Schließen Sie den Computer nicht an einen Portreplikator an, während das Netzteil oder ein anderes Kabel mit dem Computer verbunden ist. Versuchen Sie nicht, eine Verbindung herzustellen, wenn sich ein Gegenstand zwischen dem Computer und dem Portreplikator befindet. Dies könnte den Computer und den Portreplikator beschädigen. D. Drücken Sie die durch die Pfeile angezeigten Bereiche nach unten, um den Computer anzuschließen. VORSICHT Beim Anschließen des Computers an den Portreplikator: Versuchen Sie nicht, den Portreplikator zu verschieben. Öffnen Sie das Display nur so weit wie nötig (180 oder mehr) und drücken Sie nicht übermäßig stark auf das LCD. Es ist nicht möglich, den Akku zu entnehmen. Wenn während der Verbindung mit dem Portreplikator eine Störung des Computers auftritt, trennen Sie den Portreplikator und prüfen Sie, ob der Computer nun normal arbeitet. Wenn der Computer normal arbeitet, liegt möglicherweise eine Fehlfunktion des Portreplikator vor. Wenden Sie sich an den zuständigen technischen Kundendienst. Anschließen A. Schalten Sie den Computer aus und schließen Sie das Display. B. Schieben Sie den Hebel bis zum Anschlag nach hinten. Erweiterungsbus-Anschluß des Computers wird vom Anschluß des Portreplikators getrennt. C. Heben Sie den Computer vom Portreplikator ab. 24

25 VORSICHT Wenn der Portreplikator mit einem Computer verbunden ist, schließen Sie das LAN-Kabel und das VGA-Kabel an die Buchse und den Anschluss am Portreplikator an. Benutzen Sie nicht den LAN-Port und VGA-Port am Computer. Verbinden oder trennen Sie im Modus energie sparen oder Ruhezustand. Windows 7 Wenn gleichzeitig ein mit einer VGA-Anschluss und ein mit HDMI1 kompatibles externes Display angeschlossen sind und [Display] im Setup Utility auf [External Monitor] eingestellt ist, besitzt das mit HDMI kompatible Display Vorrang gegenüber dem mit einer analogen Schnittstelle kompatiblen Display.
