The Significance of Fibular Fractures on TibialShaft Fractures by Kiyoyuki Torigoe, Youshi Kamo, Shigeharu Nomura, Hirofumi Chosa, Masayuki Maekawa, Yoshiaki Ueda, Fumitoshi Ihara, Ginichirou Tokuhisa and Tetsu Murao Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Kyushu Rousai Hospital, Fukuoka, Japan We investigated how fibular fractures, fracturedislocations at the ankle joint and infective cases. We examined 137 cases, and divided them into groups according to age, type, position, open or closed cases, and therapy, excluding bone graftand pseudarthrosis. We radiographically determined periods of bone healing from the time of surgery to the time when the fracture site could bear partial weight without internal fixation. Results showed that the presence of fibular fractures shortened the period of bone healing. We are sure dynamization will contribute to bone healing.
