HIGH SCHOOL REPORT
Hello everyone! I hope you are enjoying spring and all of the fun activities that come with warmer weather! Similar to Judy, my time here on Osakikamijima is also coming to an end. Lately, I have been thinking about what I love about Japan, and what I will miss about my life here. I also have been reflecting on what I look forward to upon returning to the U.S. I have listed just my top 5 reasons for why I enjoy living in both countries. It's not to say that things about Japan don't exist in the U. S. or vice versa ; hope it doesn't come across as too simplistic (for the sake of space) either! Top 5 Reasons I Enjoy Living in Japan 5 : The quality of the food, particularly fruits and vegetables 4 : The natural beauty and the tranquil feeling of living on this island 3 : The traditions, ceremonies, and artifacts that remain even after centuries or thousands of years 2 : The respect that people show to each other is incredible, in addition to an amazing work ethic 1 : The extreme kindness and care that people demonstrate by going WAY out of their way to help others Top 5 Reasons I Enjoy Living in the U. S. 5 : Really good movies and enjoyable TV shows 4 : The idea that the "American dream" to succeed and be wealthy is obtainable by everyone 3 : The fact that any food and products from anywhere in the world is readily available 2 : The diversity of people, cultures, and languages, especially in urban areas 1 : The freedom to say and do what people like When I lived in America, I thought of myself as more Japanese than American. Now that I am in Japan, I have come to see myself as more American. It's a gift that I can experience and have these feelings, as both cultures are a part of my identity even as a 4th generation Japanese American. Until next time! Nobuko
