A Study on Arifields and City Planning in the Capital Region of Japan by Naotoshi HIDAKA, Keita TEZUKA, Tsuneaki FUKUI Osamu SHINOHARA and Koichi AMANC, Abstract: Airports play very important role in the transportation planning in a region. However, it doesn't seem that airport development has been well-correlated with city planning or regional planning in Japan. The purpose of this study is to understand: 1) the process of airport development since the introduction of airplane focusing on the conditions of transportation, 2) characteristics of landuse change of airfield after WWII,3) history of airport development concept. As a result, the study has shown that there are some clear characteristics of transportation condition according to the era and the main use of airfield, and they affected the change of landuse just after WWII. Also, the study clarified that basic concept of airport development had been kept through WWII.
