Clinical Psychological Study of t he "Okonai" 1ll t he Kohoku Region of Ohmi INOUE Akemi The paper explores " Okonai" that represents the original world of people in the Kohoku region of Ohmi. Through the experiences as a school counselor for several years in this region, finally Okonai has contributed to the region as the initiation was found. Okonai is a ritual that has been passed down from one generation to another in this region. And it has been excluding women for a long time. This study attempts to reveal the influence of Okonai on the formation of the internal world of people in this region. For this purpose, interviews were conducted with the people from this region who are involved in this ritual. Through this investigation. contemporary pictures of Okonai and the people living in this area have emerged. AB a result, the following was revealed: Okonai originated from repressed, primitive mother worship. This ritual is based on a maternal society and plays a role of the initiation for a man to grow up. However, Okonai has been losing the power as the initiation in recent years. Thus the understanding of "Fudo" (which includes not only the climate, the topography, but also the matters appeared in way of life of individuals, and way of thinking particular to the region) is crucial in psychotherapy. - 279 -
