6 Summary On the crystalographic forms of polyhedral bodies of cytoplasmic polyhedrosis viruses originated from Philosamia cynthia ricini, Lymantria fumida fumida and Dendrolimus spectabilis, formed in the larval mid-gut epitherium of the silkworm, Bombyx mori By Yoshihiko ABE Three kinds of polyhedral bodies of cytoplasmic polyhedrosis viruses originated from Philosamia cynthia ricini (PROP), Lymantria fumida fumida (LFCP) and Dendrolimus spectabilis (DSCP) were inoculated to the newly hatched or 2 nd instar larvae of the silkxorm, Bombyx mori and the crystalographic form of polyhedra formed in the larval mid-gut epitherium was observed. The crystalographic forms of original LFCP and DSCP were dodecahedron with cube consisted with 6 square planes and 12 hexagonal planes, and rombic dodecahedron consisted with 12 rombic planes. In the silkworm larvae, LFCP and DSCP were formed as tetragon at 43 hours after the inoculation and pentagon hexagon or octagon at 96 hours after the inoculation. The crystalographic forms of LFCP and DSCP in the silkworm larvae showed some irregular forms, i. e., square planes of dodecahedron with cube changed to rectangular planes and a certain plane of rombic dodecahedron changed to pentagonal or hexagonal plane. On the other hand, the crystalographic form of original PRCP, pentagonal dodecahedron, was never changed in the silkworm. (Sericultural Experiment Station, Wada, Suginami, Tokyo 166)
