2 City of Lawrenceville Class Specifications Job Title: Communications Officer Job Summary: This position operates a two-way radio and other communications equipment to receive and transmit public safety calls. The position also dispatches the appropriate public safety entity. Class Characteristics: COM1v1UNICATIONS OFFICER: This is an entry level classification. LEAD COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER: his is a lead position that is responsible for overseeing the work of an assigned shift. Major Duties: Receives, monitors, and dispatches radio communications traffic for emergency and non-emergency situations; Receives and screens all incoming telephone calls from the public and other public safety agencies; categorizes and prioritizes calls; Dispatches the appropriate emergency personnel to incident locations; Responds to citizens' requests for assistance; Maintains a continuous log of incoming telephone and radio calls; logs incoming calls for all participating agencies; Monitors and routes incoming messages from national and state computer networks; enters and removes information as requested into NCIC and GCIC networks, including information on missing persons and stolen articles; validates information as required; Receives warrant; completes criminal background and driving history section on the warrant; enters warrant information into GCIC/ NCIC and RM. S system; maintains warrant files; Receives and processes cash bonds; Assists officers on duty by using the GCIC and NCIC computers to run criminal and license histories and relaying messages; Enters information into the computer for dispatch,_ traffic citations, police reports, and cases; Informs officers on upcoming shifts of events occurring during the work shift; Ensures that an adequate stock of supplies is available for the next shift; Monitors jail security through regular checks and dosed-circuit monitoring; May process persons at the city jail, including entering data to the computerized crime information systems, maintaining jail logs, and contacting law enforcement, judicial, and medical authorities as needed; May perform miscellaneous duties such as entering data from police reports to computer and assisting in the bonding process; Answers after hours utility line; maintains a log of all calls; contacts on call personnel; Performs other related duties as assigned.
