Hoshizaki Green Found : Mar Illustrations of Common Adult Ticks in the Mainland Japan Takeo YAMAUCHI and Ayumi TAKADA Institute of Natural and Environmental Sciences, University of Hyogo / Museum of Nature and Human Activities, Hyogo, Yayoigaoka, Sanda, Hyogo Pref., Japan Laboratory of Microbiology, Department of Food and Nutritional Sciences, Graduate School of Integrated Pharmaceutical and Nutritional Sciences, University of Shizuoka, Yada, Suruga ku, Shizuoka, Shizuoka Pref., Japan Abstract Adult ticks commonly collected by flagging and from medium to large sized mammals in the mainland Japan Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu were shown in color. The ticks include following species: Amblyomma testudinarium, Dermacentor taiwanensis, Haemaphysalis cornigera, H. flava, H. formosensis, H. hystricis, H. japonica, H. kitaokai, H. longicornis, H. megaspinosa, H. phasiana, Ixodes acutitarsus, I. monospinosus, I. nipponensis, I. ovatus, I. persulcatus, I. tanuki, and I. turdus. Moreover, mouth parts and coxae ofspecies were shown. Diagnostic characters ofspecies were described.
