His name was Sean, and he was a troublemaker. He always misbehaved and fought with his classmates. When Sandy introduced him to the R.E.A.D. program, he ran around the school library. He pulled books off the shelves and threw them on the floor. One day, however, Sean showed a little change. He told Sandy that he didn t like dogs. His family had a dog, but it would often bite. He asked Sandy if Olivia would bite. Sandy said to Sean, Olivia won t bite. She wants to be your friend. She made him sit next to Olivia, and said, Sean, this is Olivia. Sean put his arms around the dog. He said in a small voice, Olivia, you re nice and warm. At that moment, the two became friends. Sean came to the school library every week to read to Olivia. He never misbehaved because he knew that Olivia didn t like bad behavior. He was always gentle and friendly with her. One summer day, Olivia looked very tired. It was hot, so Sean fanned her with a book. But Olivia was unwell all day, and Sandy took her to the veterinarian. Sandy and Olivia stopped coming to the school library, and Sean was very worried. Three weeks later, Sandy took Olivia to the school library. She told Sean that Olivia was seriously ill and wouldn t be able to live much longer.
