No.53 A word from another world Winter in Hokkaido Yievie Wu Hello everyone! How are you? In a blink of an eye, I have been living in Higashikawa for half a year already. Time flies! I have settled in well and have become accustomed to living in Hokkaido. The snow in Hokkaido is like fine powder, I am always fascinated by it! The snow here is different than the snow in Vancouver! I am having a great time snowboarding at Canmore Ski Village and Asahidake! Due to the long winters, Hokkaido is very well known for its snow festivals during the cold season. Most towns in Hokkaido, from coast to coast, host their own snow festival during the winter. Higashikawa had its own snow festival in mid-january too! The Sapporo Snow Festival can be said to be the most popular festival in Hokkaido. Tourists from around the world, as well as people living in other parts of Japan, come to Hokkaido to take part in the event. Since it is my first time in Hokkaido, I am excited to attend all the different snow festivals! It is fun to see the unique snow sculptures of each town. 10
