Does The Individualized Society Sweep away Social Reproduction? Toyoki HIRABAYASHI Abstract After World War II, advanced societies passed through high economic growth. As theories explaining such societies, there are the theory of individualization and that of social reproduction. The individualization means that individuals are separated from a traditional lifestyle or categories such as class and family, neighbourhood etc. and determine their own fate freely. The social reproduction means the process in which the feature of social structure or the mode of social domination last long through history. Therefore both theories contradict each other in the definition logically. But in contemporary developed countries, both coexist actually. The individualized society does not sweep away social reproduction. Key words individualization, individualized society, class, social reproduction. J K
