Nihongo Web Grammar Practice Sheets for Japanese 1 After completing the five Core Modules, you will take a midterm that evaluates your ability to use the basic grammar content of JA 101. This midterm may not fall in the middle of the course period, as the Core Modules take a little longer to complete than the Extra Modules (6 through 20). You can have the answer key by requesting it from Laurie Arizumi sensei. She may assign these practice pages to you for extra credit if needed, in which case she will grade for you.

Name Basic Verb Conjugations Write the verb in the form that works best in the sentence. Write in hiragana only. Be sure to use the basic masu forms and not direct style conjugation. 1. きょうすきやきを (We will eat sukiyaki today.) 2. きのうモールへ (I went to the Mall yesterday.) 3. ビールを よ! (I will not drink beer!) 4. あのえいがを (I didn t see that movie.) ~mashou (let s), ~mashou ka (shall we?), ~tai (want to) Forms Remember that tai form itself is conjugated like adjectives are conjugated! Even though it is a verb ending. 1. テレビを か (Shall we watch TV?) 2. たべ (Let s eat.) 3. いき んです (I want to go.) 4. いき んです (I wanted to go.) 5. いき んです (I don t want to go.) 6. (Let s buy [it].) 7. (Shall [I] do it?)

[I] ate sushi and salad. すし ( ) サラダ ( ) たべました List the function of, or translate each particle: wo ( を ) ga ( が ) mo ( も ) ni or e ( に or へ ) de ( で ) as in ohashi de tabemasu de ( で ) as in kissaten de tabemasu to ( と ) as in hon to zasshi ni ( に ) when it follows a time or date no ( の ) as in Aiko no oneesan

Name Noun Conjugations Conjugate the sentences as directed using polite (desu) forms. 1. あいこさんは日本人 (Aiko is Japanese.) 2. それはおてら (That was a Buddhist temple.) 3. あれはホテル よ マンション (That was not a hotel. It was a condominium.) 4. 田中さんはからてのせんせい (Mr. Tanaka is not a karate teacher.) 5. そのあかいものはキムチー (That red stuff is probably kim-chee.) Basic Adjective Conjugations Conjugate the adjectives, paying close attention to the tenses. The い have already been dropped for you! 1. このくるまはちょっとたか (This car is a little bit expensive.) 2. ジョーンズさんはうれし (Mr. Jones is not happy.) 3. なつはあまりあつ (Summer was not very hot.) 4. とうきょうからよこはままではとお (From Tokyo to Yokohama was not far.)

Name Ko-So-A-Do Series Practice Use the correct ko-so-a-do word to complete each sentence. 1. はメアリーです (This is Mary.) 2. 本をちょっとみせてください (Could you please show me that book [by you]?) 3. はざぶとんです (That [by you] is a sitting cushion.) 4. マクドナルドは ですか (Where is MacDonald s?) 5. くるまがいいですよ (This kind of car is good.) 6. いくらですか (How much is this?) 7. カレーがすきですか (What kind of curry do you like?) 8. おふろは です (The bath is way over there.) 9. えいがはすきじゃないです (I don t like that kind of movie.) 10. ですか (Which [one]?) Te Form Practice Change the following verbs to their te-forms. のむくるたべるかくかういくあそぶ to drink (consonant verb) to come (irregular) to eat (vowel verb) to write (consonant verb) to buy (consonant verb) to go (irregular or special) to play (consonant verb)
