Special Issue CFRP 455-8502 9 1 Development Status of Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastics Nobuhiko SHIMIZU Automotive Center, Toray Industries, Inc., 9-1 Oe-cho, Minato-ku, Nagoya, Aichi 455-8502 Received May 25, 2010 Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic (CFRP) is an advanced light-weight material that is being adopted by not only for sports and aircraft use but also for automotive use. Cost reduction is the most important issue to extend its automotive use. We explain the recent development status of CFRP. The new molding, processing, and recycling methods for cost reduction are completely developed, the CFRP market will expanded.
