1 Labor and Social Insurance Coverage & Contributions when Setting Up a Business in Japan 外国会社が日本駐在員事務所日本支店日本支社を設立したときの労働保険と社会保険について When you establish a representative office (chuzaiin jimusho), branch office (nihon shiten), company (kabushiki kaisha or godo kaisha) or other office in Japan, you are legally required to enroll in the Japanese labor and social insurance system. Please see the detailed information below and be sure to enroll your employees! Firstly, Japan has four different types of labor and social insurance. Companies doing business in Japan, including representative offices (chuzaiin jimusho) and branch offices (nihon shiten), are required by law to take part in the labor and social insurance system.
