Abstract: This study is intended as an investigation of the transition of Lady Windermere s Fan on stage in the Republic of china. Oscar Wild s Lady Windermere s Fan was adapted for the Chinese stage by Hong Shen ( ) in 1924.The Performance by Hong Shen and Shanghai Xiju Xieshe ( ) was a great hit, and is known as the beginning of the first modern play in China. Why was it this much popular those days? For solve this question, I had investigated of newspaper ( ) and other magazine. From the result of investigation, fashion of performance in student theater and the influence of three cinematization can be pointed out. And it turned out that the performance genre changed with time. Stage play had decreased 1930 s, but survived in radio drama, it have changed into a comedy since 1940 s. It was found from the result that play is closely connected with other jenre of entertainment, as time passed, one of modern drama changed comedy, comedy spread to the traditional district play (Huju ).
