Comparative Research on Newspaper Series of the History of the Pacific War in December 1945 : The Role of Serialized Story in Early Occupational Period Second Part Aiko Mitsui The purpose of this study is to analyze the difference of publication on the newspaper serial the History of the Pacific War. This newspaper serial was mandatorily provided by the General Headquarters (GHQ) during the occupational period after the Second World War to major Japanese mass media. The serial started December 8, 1945 which overlay the date of the Pearl Harbor attack in 1941. In an interesting twist, there were differences of compilation on the actual serial among Asahi, Mainichi, and Yomiuri-Hochi including expressions, choice of topics and deletion of entire stories. In this part of the paper, actual numbers and sentences that appeared differently from the booklet which is the closest to the original script or newspapers respectively are analyzed in details. Some sentences in the newspaper edition are not on the booklet, and vice versa. Mainichi published the most of what GHQ provided and Yomiuri-Hochi the least. The newspaper editions of each newspaper also published different parts of the provided story. In the last part of this paper, the causations of the difference among the newspapers are analyzed from point of the organizational structure of GHQ and movement for democracy on Japanese newspaper companies.
