Some magazines and books explaining the special theory of relativity make claims such as, As the velocity of a body increases, its mass increases. and Because the acceleration of a body decreases as the mass increases, its velocity cannot exceed the speed of light. The mass relative to the velocity is known as relativistic mass. However, the introduction of the concept of relativistic mass is based on misunderstanding and causes confusion. In this paper, I maintain that the concept of relativistic mass should not be introduced. The phenomena can be fully explained without reference to the concept.
