P O R T of 2016 HAKATA -Gateway to Asia and the world-

A Multioptional Cross Port Linking Kyushu with Asia and the World Logistics Network at Hakata Port Outline of International Container Terminals Industry and Economy of Kyushu and Hakata Port Multioptional Cross Port in East Asia Land for Public Sale

The Port of Hakata has expanded as a sea gateway of Kyushu and the western Japan or as a hub port connecting to Asia and the world. The international seaborne containers handled at the port in 2015 totaled approximately 870,000TEUs. To deal with the increasing volume of cargoes and larger vessels, a container terminal with a 15-meter-deep berth has partially started operation. Furthermore, the port has created a well-developed domestic/international distribution network of high-speed ro/ro or ferry routes to East Asia and various domestic transportation modes. The Port of Hakata boasts the most international passengers in Japan for 23 consecutive years and welcomed about 1.61 million international passengers in 2015. As Hakata has increased its popularity as a port of call for ships of the world s well-known cruise lines as well as a port called by the Japan-Korea liner service, the port is further enhancing its function as a passenger terminal. The Port of Hakata strives to become a multioptional cross port linking Kyushu with Asia and the world by taking advantage of its geographical proximity to East Asia, strengthening various transportation modes such as trucks, vessels and airplanes and enhancing its function as a gateway of cargo/passenger transportation at Island City, Chuo Wharf and etc. Chuo Wharf and Hakata Wharf Higashihama Wharf and Aratsu Area Others Waterfront Sister Ports, Trade Enhancement Ports and Friendship Ports History of Hakata Port

Hakata Port Intermodal Transportation Network The Port of Hakata is smoothly connected with various international marine transportation modes such as ro/ro vessels, ferries, and container vessels with domestic sea, rail, air, or land transportation. With its proximity to East Asia, Hakata Port has enhanced and strengthened seamless international intermodal logistics system which boasts high speed & punctuality, frequent service for small cargoes, low cost, and high added value. Unique RO/RO Service of High-Speed and Punctuality Hakata Port offers high-speed ro/ro liner service to/from Busan (daily) and Kaohsiung (weekly) as well as well-developed international container services. The proximity to East Asia enables Hakata to combine the high-speed ro/ro service with transportation modes available within 5km in radius of the port. The Port of Hakata connects East Asia and various areas in Japan by the unique transportation service of high-speed and punctuality: less expensive than airplanes and faster than container ships. *ro/ro: roll-on/roll-off Ro/ro ships allow cargoes to be driven on/off vessels directly by vehicles, not cranes.

Kitakyushu Shin-Yatsushiro Kyushu Shinkansen Land, Sea, and Air Transportation Networks Directly Connected to Wharves The Port of Hakata achieves an international intermodal transport system between the entire island of Kyushu and the rest of the world.

Offering Safe, Secure and Speedy Distribution System around the Clock for 364 Days Most-Advanced Container Terminals Container terminals at Island City and Kashii Park Port handle 90% of international marine containers at the Port of Hakata. Island City Container Terminal currently has a 14m-deep berth and a 15m-deep berth side by side equipped with five gantry cranes and 19 electric-powered transfer cranes. The terminal has been operated as the most-advanced foreign trade container terminal. Hakata Port continues to develop and expand the terminal in stages and aims at making it a world-class environmentally-friendly container terminal. Kashii Park Port Container Terminal is equipped with two 13m-deep berths side by side and four gantry cranes. The adjacent International Cargo Inspection Center is equipped with Kyushu s first large x-ray inspection apparatus, further enhancing its distribution function. The container terminals at Island City and Kashii Park Port operate around the clock for 364 days a year and are integrally managed via the IT system. The terminals handled some 790,000TEUs in 2015.

ISLAND CITY Container Terminal Layout of Island City Container Terminal Privatization of Public Container Terminals In April, 2004, Hakata Port realized privatization of public container terminals (by the national government s policy, the Project for Specific Wharf Management) at Island City and Kashii Park Port for the first time in Japan. Since then, the port has been making efforts in the efficient port management by utilizing private sectors. With the amendment of the Port and Harbor Act implemented in March, 2011, Hakata Port introduced the national government s newly-established system, the Port Operating Company System in April, 2014. With the system, Hakata has been promoting further efficient port management by use of dynamic private companies and making the port more user-friendly and respond to the needs of users.

Advanced Approaches at Container Terminals Hakata Port Logistics IT System (HiTS Ver. 3) the status of import/export containers such as the progress of administrative procedures and the cargo location, and instructions and operational information shared among logistics-related parties. eliminating congestion at container terminal gates, reducing number of papers by use of electronic data and preventing mistakes such as double-inputting and inaccurate inputting. In September, 2013, a function named as the Container Lock was added to the system. The new function was developed for smoother cargo check- in/out at terminals and can be used by smartphone. The systems in Chinese and English also became available since April, 2015. Vessel arrival/departure Users can obtain real-time information on vessel movements. HiTS Connected with Overseas Systems Hakata Port has realized container data exchange with foreign ports by connecting systems ahead of other global ports, which enabled to obtain the latest container information of foreign ports. April, 2007 Shenzen Port (Chiwan Port and Shekou Port) November, 2009 Guangzhou Port (Nansha Port and Huangpu Port) September, 2012 Qingdao Port June, 2015 Bangkok Port May, 2016 Tianjin Port, Xiamen Port, Taipei Port and Ho Chi Minh Port Export/import container information Container location Vessel information Progress of administrative procedures (Customs clearance and etc.) Status of containers to be carried out Container yard congestion Time required to carry containers in/out of the gate Image in front of the gate

Installation of Ecological System of the World s Best Standards To realize the ecological container terminal of the world s best standards, Kyushu Regional Development Bureau of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, Fukuoka City and Hakata Port Terminal Co., Ltd. have jointly conducted demonstration experiments at Hakata. At Island City Container roof shade was installed to save electricity at a reefer container facility. In addition, hybrid straddle carriers were installed at Kashii Park Port Container Terminal. These experiments to reduce CO2 emission and energy cost were valued and we received the gold prize of the IAPH Port Environment Award at the IAPH World Ports Conference held on May 9th, 2013 at Los Angeles. CO 2 emission reduced by the RTG The CO 2 emission was reduced by about 74% of that from the traditional cranes. This equals to the amount of CO 2 that a forest of 600ha (about 1.5 times as large as Island City) can absorb in a year. Measures to Keep the Terminal Operation in Times of Disaster Hakata Port has been making approaches to keep the container terminal operation without disturbing logistics in times of disaster such as an earthquake and in times of electric power failure. Major approaches taken at Hakata are introduction of anti-seismic gantry crane and securing electricity for reefer containers and the terminal system in times of the power failure.
