Change of Leadership It is with much regret that we have accepted the resignation of Dr. Ray Welch as 2nd Vice President and member of the American Chamber of Commerce in Okinawa due to personal reasons. We sincerely thank Ray for his significant and valued contribution over the years and express our hope that his personal circumstances will allow him to join the Chamber again in the future. Further to this, under Section 23 of the Constitution and By-Laws, the Board is required to elect a replacement. Our Nomination Committee provided the board with preferred candidates for a 2nd Vice President and any positions left vacant subsequent to this appointment. The ACCO has Gone Digital The Chamber Board has voted to go digital. Starting June 1 st all invoices and statements from the Chamber will be sent via e-mail electronically vs the mailed print standard. If you feel that you need to continue to receive your invoices/statements printed and mailed to your company address, please let the Chamber office know immediately. Okinawa Memorial Day June 23rd is Okinawa Memorial Day (Irei no Hi), a day to reflect and honor those that died in the battle of Okinawa. There will be a small wreath laying ceremony at the US memorial site and then we will be participating in the main Memorial Day ceremony. We encourage those that can, to attend. Although meeting times/location will depend on who attends, in the past we have met in Naha (near the airport) in the morning around 9am and have returned to Naha a little after 1pm. Please RSVP by June 13 th so we can coordinate the ride sharing and timing. US Consulate Independence Day Celebration The US Consulate General, Naha is extending invitations to Chamber Members to attend this year s US Independence Day celebration on July 2 nd at the US Consulate General, Naha. Invitations will be sent to all Chamber Members shortly. There will be no July General Membership Meeting due to the US Independence Day celebration. Our next General Membership meeting will be August 5 th at the Laguna Garden Hotel. August ACCO General Membership Meeting The August 5, 2015 General Membership Meeting, to be held at the Laguna Garden hotel, will feature Mr. Junichi Yasunaga, Vice President of the Ryukyu Kings Basketball Team. Mr. Yasunaga will discuss future plans for our hometown basketball team. Please join us for this interesting topic.
