Longships Ryan Meeoer Longships ere sea vessels made and used y the Vikings rom the Nordic countries or trade, commerce, exploration, and arare during the Viking Age. The longship is characterized as a graceul, long, narro, light, ooden oat ith a shallo-drat hull designed or speed. The ship's shallo drat alloed navigation in aters only one metre deep and permitted each landings, hile its light eight enaled it to e carried over portages. This piece relects the expedition o such ships through its music, ocusing on using the irst six notes learned in most method ooks. It opens ith many o the part portraying the roing o the shipヌs oars and aves crashing against its sides. The trumpets enter ith the main melody at measure 5, relecting the eeling o the shipmates roing the oars. As the harmonies enter at measure 13, e sure these players donヌt over shado the melody as it continues through this section. A contrasting section egins at measure 21, ith the oodinds playing ne material, in a light, quiet ashion. ractice getting the change in styles rom loud to sot, and detached to smooth.
