Abstruct This paper is a study of Wa-kun and the colloquial vocabulary of the Tang Dynasty novel known as You Xian Ku. You Xian Ku reflects not only the richness in the Literature of the Tang Dynasty - CE, but also of the spoken word too, and is arguably significant as a legitimate cultural force because its legacy extends through the Chinese Middle Ages into contemporary society, notably the writer Lu Xun -. Although the Japanese scholar Kanda Kiichiro has cited two important cases pertaining to the nature of the Wa-kun s colloquial vocabulary, in respect of You Xian Ku it remains the case that much still exists which has not yet been examined or deconstructed. It is the aim of this research paper therefore, to begin an attempt to compare and contrast both You Xian Ku and Wa-kun through the lens of an holistic examination of vocabulary. To in effect carry out an exposition of how the vocabulary of You Xian Ku reflects. Keywords : 1
