Organizer: M Tokeshi (Kyushu University) Following the last year's successful symposium ("Community Ecology 2001") on the theme of linking ecosystems and ideas in the study of community ecology, this symposium aims to provide an opportunity to discuss various aspects of community ecology in its broad sense. The theme for this year is 'deciphering community patterns'. There are many issues involved in analysing and interpreting community patterns on different scales of space and time and these issues are often crucial in making inferences about community structure in various assemblages. Invited speakers have been asked to identify those issues and/or factors considered to be important for the particular systems that they are familiar with and present a general picture of the community organization in those systems. As usual, the symposium will be conducted in English only. All are welcome; graduate researchers are particularly encouraged to participate in the discussion.
