Abstract A Report on an Investigation of the Funeral Ceremony of theyi Society in Da Liangshan China Presenter: Xiu Li FAN Graduate School for International Development and Cooperation, Hiroshima University Summary In this investigation, a field work, in Da Liangshan Yi Zizhiqu, Si chuan China, was done from July 26 to August 28 in 1997 under the theme of A consideration about the function of the funeral ceremonies for character-building in the society of the Yi in China. This is a report on the investigation which I carried out in the field with other Researchers of Bimo culture by interviewing the priests called Bimos. The contents of this report are as follows; (1) The Cultural Background of the Yi in Da Liangshan District. (2) The Three Types of Da Liangshan Yi Funeral Ceremonies: Boddie, Madduddie, Cobi, and the unique Yihe.
