A Study of the Ceremony of Mogi, in TheTaleofGenji ADACHI Yasuko The ceremony of Mogi was one of the women s rites of passage of Heian era (794 1185).To wear a Mo with a similar shape of skirt was to give wider publicity that a daughter grow up to be woman and ready to marry noble man. The Mo as ceremonial dress was not only bride s outfit but also dignified manner for court ladies in that times. This study offers the subject that the difference of the meaning between the ladies wearing the Mo by her father and the court ladies wearing the Mo of her own accord. And beside there were also noble ladies wearing the Mo by their decision of intelligences and wits in the status society.
