Diskette Drive Installation HP xw Series Workstation This document describes how to install a diskette drive. Kit Contents This product is shipped with the necessary supplies for installing a diskette drive in various workstation models, so you might not use all of the cables, bezels, or screws. Diskette drive Cables HP xw8200 Workstation and HP xw6200 Workstation round cable HP xw4300 Workstation, HP xw4200 Workstation, and HP xw4100 Workstation flat cable Three bezels (one for each workstation) HP xw8200 Workstation 5.25-inch bezel HP xw6200 Workstation 3.5-inch bezel (thinner than the xw4300, xw4200 and xw4100) HP xw4300 Workstation, HP xw4200 Workstation and HP xw4100 Workstation 3.5-inch bezel (thicker than the xw6200) Screws (xw8200, xw4300, xw4200, and xw4100 only) Bracket (xw8200 only) Gather your Supplies Option kit Printed copies of relevant workstation documentation, which can be found at http://www.hp.com/support/workstation_manuals Installing a Diskette Drive For product-specific information, refer to the Service and Technical Reference Guide for your HP Workstation at http://www.hp.com/support/workstation_manuals. 1. Disconnect power from the system, remove the access panel, the front bezel, the necessary bezel blank, and the EMI filler blank, if applicable. 1
2. Insert the diskette drive in the bracket, and secure the diskette drive by inserting two M3 screws in the rear most holes. NOTE: This step only applies to HP xw8200 Workstation. 3. Slide the drive into the bay. For the HP xw4300 Workstation, HP xw4200 Workstation, and HP xw4100 Workstation, you must add four screws to secure the diskette drive to the chassis. 4. Connect a data cable from the system board to the diskette drive and connect the power cable from the power supply to the diskette drive. Depending on your system, the location of the system board connector and the correct power cable to use might be different. Refer to the Service and Technical Reference Guide for your HP Workstation for product-specific information. 2
Diskette Drive Installation Ä CAUTION: 5. Route the diskette drive data cable between the system board and the hard drive cage. Your cable might look different than the one shown. The cable must stay between the system board and the hard drive cage. It might be necessary to push the cable down so that it catches on the system board. This routing method is important because you do not want to interfere with the heatsink fans or block airflow. 6. Replace the diskette drive bezel, front bezel, access panel, reconnect power, and turn on the workstation. 3
