II. GRAMMAR REVIEW: Topic: Non-Count Nouns and Plural Verbs (5-6 minutes) ( 不可算名詞と動詞 ) Non-Count nouns are nouns that can t be counted. Because they don t have plural forms, they can t use plural verbs. They are usually one of the following kinds: ( 不可算名詞とは数えられない名詞をいいます 不可算名詞には複数形がないため 動詞は単数形を受ける形となります 不可算名詞は次のカテゴリーのうちのいずれかです ) a. Made up of smaller parts ex. Furniture, Cash, Clothing ( 個々のものではなく 集合体として表すもの 例 Furniture 家具, Cash, 現金 Clothing 衣類 ) b. About food ex. Coffee, Rice, Pizza ( 食べ物 例 Coffee コーヒー, Rice 米, Pizza ピザ ) c. About the weather ex. Rain, Snow, Sunshine ( 天気 例 Rain 雨, Snow 雪, Sunshine 日光 ) d. Abstract nouns ex. Promotion, Confidence, Music ( 抽象的な名詞 Promotion 昇進, Confidence 自信, Music 音楽 ) Remember: Use singular verbs with non-count nouns, or add words before the non-count nouns that would help us count or quantify them so you can use plural verbs.
