GRAMMAR REVIEW: Topic: Causative Verbs (5-6 minutes) ( 使役動詞 ) Causative verbs express the idea that the subject of the sentence is causing someone or something else to do an action. Some of these verbs need the word "to" while others do not. ( 使役動詞は 文の主語が人や物に行動を起こさせるという考えを表します 使役動詞 の中には to 不定詞 の形をとるものもあります ) Some of the most commonly used causative verbs are: ask, command, force, get, have, let, make, remind, require, order, and urge. ( 一般的によく用いられる使役動詞は ask command force get have let make remind require order urge などです ) Remember: Causative verbs can either be in active or passive voice. When used in the active voice, the causative verb is followed by bare infinitives. While in passive voice, to -infinitive is used. ( 使役動詞は能動態でも受動態でも用いることができます 能動態で用いる場合 使役動詞の後には原形不定詞が続きます 受動態で用いる場合 to 不定詞 が続きます ) Page 3

( リンダはゲストを出迎えるよう頼まれました ) Sarah was ordered to attend the meeting. ( サラは会議に出席するよう命じられました ) The secretary was urged by my boss to send the invitation. ( 秘書は招待状を送るよう私の上司に急かされました ) They were allowed by the CEO to wear semi-formal attire during the business event. ( 彼らは仕事におけるイベントでセミフォーマルな装いを CEO に許可されていました ) Active Voice (without to ) ( 能動態 : to 不定詞 を用いない ) Subject + Verb+ Object + Verb (Bare infinitive) ( 主語 + 動詞 + 目的語 + 原形不定詞 ) I had Linda welcome the guests. ( 私はリンダにゲストを出迎えさせました ) She made Sarah attend the meeting. ( 彼女はサラを会議に出席させました ) My boss made his secretary send the invitation immediately. ( 私の上司は秘書に早急に招待状を送らせました ) The CEO let them wear semi-formal attire during the business event. (CEO は仕事におけるイベントで彼らにセミフォーマルな装いをさせました ) Comprehension Check: Create two sentences using causative verbs, one using the passive voice, and the other one using the active voice.
