19 Mainly I will discuss about the origin, structure and movement of the so called Mob Silom and Mob Siam Paragon organized by PAD. Firstly, a brief history of the mobs will be reviewed, started from the time when Sonthi ʹs TV program Muangthai Raisapda was abruptly cancelled from Channel 9 in last September, Sonthi fusiously continued his program on the indoor stage at Thammasart University and finally moved to the outdoor location at Lumpini Park obviously with cooperation and facilities provided by the Democratic Party, Prachatipat, the current Bangkok Administration. Sonthiʹs usual criticism on the bribery and corruptions of the government has greatly shifted to aim at ousting the Prime Minister after Sonthi and his colleagues encountered many forms of bullying by the PMʹs group, including an outrage law suit by Thaksin suing for five hundred million baths from Sonthi and his program partner, Miss Sarocha. Eventhough this weekly political talk show was partly viewed by public as personal conflict in business between Sonthi and Thaksin, it could gain and attract more attention of the ʹsalary peopleʹ (manut ngern duen) from Silom, Sathorn and nearby business centers as well as the petty traders in the city, who awaited to listen to the never heard of insight news and information from Sonthi. Secondly, the rise of the PAD (Peopleʹs Alliance for Democracy) or phanthamit will be discussed. The PAD coalition was created after Thaksin sold his holding company, Shin Corp to the Singapore government owned company, Temasek Holdings, in late January, at the price as high as seventy three thousand millions baht. The complicated procedure of this Shin Deal was revealed as immoral, unethical and illegal. The fact that the law on the share holding by foreign company was changed only two days before the deal announcement in order to validate the selling, aroused anger among people in business sector. It is understood that the telecom frequencies monopolized by the satellite company sold to Temasek is a national asset by law, thus selling such asset to Singapore is equivalent to selling part of the nation (khai chaat). Chamlong who failed in his confidential advising to Thaksin and other NGO leaders decided to cooperate with Sonthi to set up the PAD just overnight. The PAD is a threat to Thaksin since there has never been such a powerful group to challenge his authority. During the presentation, some photos will be shown. 19
